The large squat stand makes a huge difference when working your legs on the Total Gym. It positions your legs at a 90 degree angle, which prevents injury and stress on your knees, and allows for more focused, intense leg workout. After using the original shorter stand that came with Gym, my knees ached for days - I thought I had made a big mistake purchasing it. Now, with the larger, longer stand I am able to have an intense workout without injury. I just wish the makers of the Total Gym had made the larger stand part of the original product. The large stand is a bit expensive, however it is a well made solid piece and well worth the investment if you are looking for lower body workouts.
