As someone who's spent hundreds of hours across half a dozen or so different Spider-Man games, I've got a lot to say here. "Ultimate Spider-Man" adapts from the Marvel's "Ultimate" comics continuity, allowing it to showcase character dynamics and interpretations that are different from what many Spidey fans might be used to from most other sources. The voice acting is excellent, overflowing with the wisecracks and wit expected from a Spider-Man production. The gameplay, however, is a bit of a mixed bag. On the upside, "Ultimate Spider-Man" grants you control over both Spider-Man and his archenemy Venom. The two characters have very appreciably different controls and styles of play, as well as having mutually exclusive minigames after the main story has concluded. For example, a new and interesting gameplay concept introduced when playing as Spider-Man is that normal enemies must be captured with webbing when they are defeated, or else they will eventually regain consciousness and resume fighting at full health. While playing as Venom, however, the character's health gauge will continually decrease over time, and the only way to replenish Venom's health is by draining the life-force out of New York's hapless civilian population. These kinds of mechanics can drive the player to put a bit more thought into their battle strategies than in other "Spider-Man" games, providing an extra layer of depth beyond most other Spidey games. That said, a major downside is that the main story comes across as feeling very short. Of particular concern is that despite how short the story is, the missions have an increasingly sharp difficulty curve as you progress through them, with a few of the later levels or bosses being dependent on brutally intense button-mashing sequences. "Ultimate Spider-Man" is definitely worth giving a fair shake, but I can't promise that it's for everyone. Unless you're a die-hard Spider-Fan, I'd probably sooner suggest that you first rent the game via a service like Gamefly, BEFORE you decide whether or not to purchase your own copy.Read full review

This is a wonderful game. It has a very good control system for swinging around NYC and Queens. Simultaneously, it is not an overbearing control to where it has a high learning curve. The graphics are very inline with the Ultimate Spider-man comic, as well as the majority of the story (which is considered as Canon in the USM comics). My only complaint is that it is a fairly short game. Plowing through the story only takes aproximately 10 to 15 hours. However, taking the time to find all of the extra tokens could take well up to 40-80 depending on how keen you are in seeing them.
I had looked forward to this game for months. When it came out, I excitedly went to rent it. I found it very fun and decided to, once the game was due back to the store, purchase the game. I continued to enjoy the game as I had before, but, to my disappointment, beat the story mode within 3 or 4 days. Although incredibly enjoyable, the game was simply too short and easy. Luckily, once the story was complete, I was pleased to find that I could continue free-roaming and that I could now switch between Venom and Spider-Man at will. Still, though, the story was much too short. Another problem was that with every boss, there came a chase level. Although a few of these are not too bad, they became very boring and repetitive. All in all, quite fun and worth the money, but nowhere near perfect. If you are a comic-book fan, it is a must-have. If you're not, it's worth a rental. Although the game is not perfect, the structure of the game (including playable Venom and comic-book-type visuals) is quite cool, and will, in my opinion, open many doors for super hero games. I am expecting excellent sequels to come out of this game.Read full review
This is one of my favorite Spiderman games, You've got the ability to play as Spidey or Venom, which for me was a major selling point. The over the top web swinging from mid air is there, just like the comics. There is also a whole slew of new moves like the web sling shot ! Venom plays slower but more powerful, and fits right in. If you've ever wanted a free swinging high action, and not to mention fun Spiderman game...I think this is it.
Ultimate Spider-Man gives you the feel of not just playing a video game, but rather playing a virtual comic book. The graphics give it the comic book look. The game is fun, giving you the ability to web sling around New York freely, along with a good story line. The game also gives you the ability to become Venom and to go rampaging around and causing havoc. The only thing I would have liked would have been if the game had been a little more difficult than it actually was, but other than that, the game is a must have fir the true comic book fan.
Dude wrapped the game like 4 times in bubble wrap to make sure it stayed decent before it was wrapped in one of those bubbled envelopes. Case is in excellent condition, disk is clean, everything looks like I just took it out of the packaging. Dude's a real one.

If You're a Spiderman fan and an Activision game fan, a Playstation PS2 Fan, then all stars and planets are aligned, as this is one of the nicest games I have played in a while. Lots to do and lots to see. As well, this version has Stan Lee, how it was made, hints and bio's on the characters. This version is x-tra nice! There is much more control of the web slinger, there is also a story mode, giving you plenty time to do side missions in NYCity or change attributes of the plots. This game holds true to the comic version and you get to have some visits from some of Spidey's friends. Climbing and swinging as well as slinging a web, is EZ and the game is well put together with lots of play! Yes, I am a Spiderman Fan! If you are, then this is definitly one to add to the collection. It is a one player game, but what a game, and who says you can't have the controller in your hand? This is an excellent game for a wide variety of ages, and is well put together. My daughter (9years old) finds No difficulty in playing... niether do I, except getting to the controller and console first! This is a "Get It" and the prices are reasonable these days as well! lyond2k1 - The Lyon's Den by Lyon Danebridge - an ebay storeRead full review

I wish that all comic character games had been handled like this game. Ultimate Spider Man puts you in all the comic book glory of Spidey and Venom in a free roaming adventure in the world of Spider Man. Graphics are perfect for this genre'. Controls flawless. Fun, fun, fun. If you are a Spidey fan, and/or a Venom fan, and who isn't? Then you must buy this game if you've missed it. Cell shaded graphics stand the test of time better than any other technique in video gaming, and this game is the perfect illustration of this fact. Get this game if you can. You won't be sorry. It's fun, it's long, and whether young or old it's a great time to control both Spidey and Venom in this timeless classic game.
