About this product

Product Information

Arising from the same unholy concoction as its immediate predecessor in the series, Resident Evil 5 looks like a third-person shooter, plays like a first-person shooter, and feels like a survival-horror game. As in the acclaimed Resident Evil 4, an up-close, over-the-shoulder perspective allows players to see the heroes in action. Accessible aiming controls and fluid graphics make for quick, intuitive weapon use. Creepy settings, un-human enemies, and keen pacing create experiences of tense exploration, startling surprise, and overwhelmingly outnumbered desperation. The first in the Resident Evil series designed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game presents its horrors in high-definition, built on a custom-enhanced version of Capcom's MT Framework game engine.

The story takes place in Africa, in the fictional desert country of Kijuju. The game is set about ten years after the events of the original Resident Evil, and features the original game's character Chris Redfield in the lead role. He is accompanied by a skilled mercenary named Sheva Alomar. The two work well together, and many of the most challenging situations in the game are best overcome with teamwork. When one of the two characters has been subdued or wounded, the other can "help" or "heal" with the press of a button. Other circumstances call for particular solutions, such as one player drawing enemies out of cover while the other picks them off with rifle shots from a safer location.

Both characters are agents of a international group known as the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (or BSAA), on a mission to investigate the origins of the nefarious Tyrant virus, variants of which have been responsible for turning ordinary people and animals into mindless, zombie-like killing machines throughout the Resident Evil series. The game's levels are a mix of spooky, scripted runs and open-ended battles that develop dynamically. Although facing surprise attacks and overwhelming odds, a run-and-gun approach won't last; it takes situational tactics and good ammo management to make it through each stage. Online multiplayer co-op is available throughout the game, in which one player controls Chris and the other controls Sheva.

The Gold Edition of Resident Evil 5 includes two new scenarios. "Lost in Nightmares," also available as a downloadable add-on pack, puts players in control of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as they infiltrate a secret mansion headquarters for a face-to-face confrontation with Ozwell E. Spencer. In the scenario "Desperate Escape," players guide Josh Stone and Jill Valentine on a mission to rendezvous with Chris and Sheva. Similar to the Xbox 360 version of the title, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition for PS3 also includes access to eight new characters for play in the game's "Mercenary" mode. Unlike the Xbox 360 version, which comes with a token for free access to the downloadable content packs, the PS3 version of the game includes all eight characters and the additional costumes on the Gold Edition game disc.

The package arrived 2 days ahead of USPS estimate. The item was overly packaged, which was a good thing even though it was kinda frustrating at the time. The item was exactly as described and was beautiful and worked well. If the seller has more items I'm interested in I would definitely buy from them again. Very highly recommended.

  • Good game, worth the money. Not scary, which is disappointing. 4/5.

Let me start off by saying that I'm an avid RE fan. Having played just about every game, I can differentiate between a good game, and a bad one. Resident evil 5 is a good game. The controls are simple, and the aiming with the laser sighting is easy enough. It IS NOT however a survival horror game like past RE games. Capcom completely threw out the survival horror take and put in what I call action survival. This game isn't scary at all, which disappointed me the first time I played it. It has a lot of action, but RE is known for being scary, not having tons of action. That being said, RE5 is good, just like all the other games, it just depends on your taste. If you like the old-school RE games more because of their fear aspect, then you won't appreciate this game for what it's worth. RE5 ...

  • Great co-op experience.

I'm just going to say that yes this game is a bit of a departure from the classic RE games of the PS1 era. The game shares more similarities with its predecossor, RE4, than the other games and is a bit more action focused than them as well. That said, the game is an absolute blast to play in co-op, so much that I wouldn't recommend buying the game if you have any intention on rolling solo. Just don't... Also, Gold Edition comes with two extra scenarios, Lost In Nightmares, a prequel and tribute to the older games with a much more spooky atmosphere and limited ammunition reminiscent of the older games, and Desperate Escape, a continuation from one of the big plot points of RE5, itself. Both feature the return of Jill Valentine (as the cover art alludes to) and are great additions to the ...

  • Good Game, Tons of Content

I'll start off by saying that I am a fan of the Resident Evil Gaming Franchise (I think the movies are horrid). I opened this game with high hopes and I wasn't let down, their was a lot of content and a decent storyline, although I wish there was more in regards to the story. The graphics were excellent, the sound was excellent. But it was lacking something, and after reading some other reviews I realized that it was the scare factor. This game is completely void of anything scary whatsoever. You run through just killing zombies and at the end of the game, you're thinking well... that wasn't what I thought. However the extra content comes in where the game was lacking, the extra missions given through the gold edition did have a well thought out story and decent scare factor as well. I ...

  • Great buy for those who are going to buy this game the first time.

One the the great coop games ever played in my opinion. You need absolute teamwork or if you are good enough you can solo if you like. The included expansions are a plus and after waiting for a bit you get to have the game for even a cheaper price. Sad though and unfair that new move players will have to buy this game if they already have the Original copy. The game is worth it if you don't have the original copy. Otherwise buy the add ons and enjoy the game as is.
