The problem with WCW Backstage Assault is that it is a wrestling game with a gimmick rather than a wrestling game. Instead of pure wrestling, you are forced to fight backstage with incessant brawling, hoping to magically incapacitate your opponent into a pinfall or knockout. Instead of looking at this game as wrestling game, look at it as a bad horror movie: a bunch of things meant to be wrestling, but instead off humorous situations and/or blunders. Gameplay-Fans of WCW Mayhem will be thrilled that the grapple system is intact. It is very easy to take control once you have learned the basics of movement. Easily the best grapple system of American PSone wrestling. Modes/Replay-The only purpose of replay is to unlock things. There is no coherent story mode, rather a gauntlet and title mode. The gauntlet is beating seven wrestlers back to back with no replenishing of stamina. Honestly, it is too hard for any casual gamer. The title quest is working your way up to a title match, either Hardcore, US, or World. On the multi-player front, there is singles, human torch, and first blood. Graphics: Graphics are somehow worse than mayhem. Even wrestling fans may have trouble identifying some of their favorite wrestlers. Lash LaRue looks like red and green vomit! Value: I cannot properly explain the comedic value. It is one of those things you have to experience for yourself as weapons bounce off your skull and then somehow knocks out your opponent.Read full review
Your mission is to destroy the enemy by any means necessary. If you fail, the world as we know it may come to an end. You’ll be fighting through seven intense levels as you try to reach the evil enemy and bring safety to your city. Whether you journey to undiscovered alien worlds or battle at the end of the earth, it’s all here. Have no fear though, as you’ll have a huge array of weapons to choose from: multi-phase pulse rifles, overwhelming shock weapons, and magnetic bolt accelerators, just to name a few. Each weapon will serve its own purpose in destroying the mutant race. If you can’t do it alone, then join up with a friend in the Two-Player Cooperative mode. The Two-Player mode offers more mutants, different routes, and insane challenges behind every door. No matter how you play this game though, you’ll be in for some action-packed fun.Read full review
You can't take anything away from this game, it is really good for WcW but it can't compare to the WWF games at the time because the graphics were kinda bad and in a wrestling game that is hard to get past. The movement is chunky at times but the game itself is something you don't see because it's only in the Backstage areas and I give praise to WcW for doing that. It has all your favorites wrestlers and some awesome nWo & Wolfpac outfits for wrestlers like Sting & Nash and the others of the PAC. The PS version isn't much different than the N64 version. I have both because I'm a WcW / nWo collektor and these are a welcomed piece of it.
It reminds me of contra and starship troopers movie in one game! I wanted this game since 1999 and finally go it! I love it! r!

GAME IS GOOD FOR THE WRESTLING FAN, GRAPHICS ARE NOT THAT GREAT, AND IS ONLY ONE PLAYER. BUT OVERALL GOOD GAME.
