Maida Heatter is the Queen of Desserts
Any recipe of Maida Heatter's is precise, exact, detailed -- and delicious. She is almost obsessive in her instructions, such as telling you exactly which brand of chocolate or cream cheese to use, how to exactly measure ingredients, how to remove the stem and core of an apple, etc. BUT ... wait a minute ... the good part is, if you follow her instructions exactly, you'll get fabulous results. Maida Heatter has been one of my culinary favorites for many, many years. In her books, you will not find recipes for apple pie or German chocolate cake. What you will find are unique, downright delicious desserts that are the best you've ever had. Yes - she is particular with ingredients and bakeware. Yes - some of the recipes take a little while to prepare. But, you will be well rewarded with what ... Any recipe of Maida Heatter's is precise, exact, detailed -- and delicious. She also does something that many authors do not: She actually attributes the inspiration for the recipe to its origin -- such as giving Craig Claiborn credit for his cheesecake recipe. Many authors just vary ingredients slightly and call it their own. Maida is a classy lady who has written several dessert cookbooks and she ranks among the top two or three dessert cookbook authors in the USA.
