The coyote question answered
We have three rescue dogs of varying breeds (i.e. mutts) and have had ideas about what each one is a combination of, but didn't know for sure. Nikki, who we thought could be part coyote, was our first candidate for DNA testing. Her results came back with absolutely no coyote whatsoever, but 60 percent German shepherd and the rest a combination of shepherd breeds. I see her in a new light, and understand her maybe a bit better too. The test was extremely easy to use (although Nikki is a lot more fidgety than the dog in the instruction video), as was the whole process - collecting her cheek saliva sample, mailing and getting the results. Necessary tool
This DNA kit for pets is something that could/should be used by consumers. With all the unwanted dogs in shelters, testing what they’re genetic makeup is would be helpful in getting them adopted. Very good for identifying breed composition
It was easy to use with excellent instructions. I was disappointed in the test itself as I was using it as a comparison test and only ONE health marker was included. One that was extremely rare and even more rare in the breeds included for this dog. I checked into upgrading the test once I received the results and found it is an additional $40 to upgrade.so, if you are only interested in identifying the breeds, you will be happy with this test.it is fun in that it also identifies relatives of your pet. Fourth time user, outstanding accuracy with their findings.
A little pricey, however ... this was my fourth time to use the product. Each time I received a quality results. Quality control is consistent and very professional. The 1-2-3 operation provides an easy to use system IF you read the instructions carefully and follow them. The first time I used WP I was impressed that you tell the company nothing beyond age, sex, and name of pet. The resulting information given to me was unexpectedly exact and accurate. The third time I used WP I was told by my vet that I had a Cocker Spaniel, which turned out to be a red long haired Rottie/Staffie mix. WP told me it was not rare, but uncommon. I changed vets. Their findings were precisely correct down to the projected 80 lb. weight. All four of my dogs were rescues at less than 12 weeks. Now all are from 1 to 4 years old. Good product but expensive and sometimes results can be vague.
This is a good product that’s easy to use and easy to return for processing in the lab. Results take about two weeks to get back via email. I think they are overpriced though. Sometimes, with a mixed breed dog, the results can be very broad. We’ve used this product 5 times and on one of our dogs, it said 67.5% unidentifiable. That doesn’t narrow much down. The other thing I’ve noticed is the Chow Chow breed must be a pretty promiscuous as some percentage of that breed showed up in all of our dogs. Strange as I hardly ever see that breed when I’m out and about or at the vet, etc but it’s DNA seems to be every!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Got my questions answered
I got my dog 10 years ago "free dog". They told us he was red Heeler and Chihuahua. Don't care for Chihuahuas, but he was so fluffy and cute. When we got him we noticed how big his paws were, our vet doubted he had Chihuahua in him. After 10 years he now weighs in at 90lbs. Now we know. He is such a good natured dog and has a beautiful red fluffy coat and a beautiful tail (he is very proud of his tail). His coat comes from the Chow Chow and Collie in him, the tail from the Austrailian Shepard in him. And his good nature from the Labrador Retriever in him. Accurate results; a real eye opener!
This is the second Wisdom Panel 3.0 kit I have purchased. I don't have the results of this one back yet, but the first one that I did on my other dog was really helpful. The results will narrow down the dog's breed(s), which helps an owner and the vet be aware of any health issues that may be related to a certain breed. Since both my dogs are rescues, their breed(s) are really unknown without the DNA analysis. My first dog came to me as a "chi-weenie" (chihuahua & dachshund). The Wisdom Panel determined that he is Schnauzer/Jack Russell/Chihuahua and not dachshund at all. I am anxious to get the results from this kit as my new rescue came to me as a chihuahua/corgi but I'm not so sure. Love this!
My dog had been such an enigma personality wise. I could only theorize what she was. I swabbed her mouth and placed the sample in the prepaid box to be mailed. It was SO easy. Turns out she's a schipperke/American Eskimo/mini pin mix. The test results gave a breakdown of each breed and tested her to see if she genetically had any allergies to medications and such. I highly recommend this product.
