In this world... redemption just comes once. An Academy Award-winning film about a gritty young gang leader named Tsotsi who lives on the dangerous and crime-ridden streets of Johannesburg, South Africa. This deeply affecting film traces six days in Tsotsi's life in which he ends up caring for a baby he accidentally kidnaps during a car jacking. With the baby's welfare at stake, Tsotsi is compelled to confront his own brutal nature and face the consequences of his actions, if he ever wishes to find redemption in his life.... This riveting drama of the triumph of love over rage is based on the acclaimed book by author and playwright Athol Fugard, winner of the 2006 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
This is a brilliant film about the life of a young black South African boy living in Soweto, South Africa. It tells his story over six days of crime, car jacking and murder. It all goes wrong for him when he ends up with a baby in the car he has just hijacked. It is a very riveting film, and to me, a South Arican, very true to life of what goes on in the life a young black South African trying to get money to live. Fantastic acting by all, a very heart rendering film. The special features are great as well, there is a short film by the writer and director Gavin Hood and gives his commentary about the film. The commentary on all the special features are excellent and well explained. A really incredible and brilliant Academy Award winnin film, well worth watching.
i had heard a lot about the film but missed it at the cinema. i have visited theslum area of niarobi and seen how dehumanising life can be there and the author of the book on which the film is based is highly respected. i needed some dvds to take on holiday and this was the one i enjoyed most..bad language appearts to be an authentic requirement.
If you like this film BUY THE BOOK.I was disappointed, but I had read the book first, the story board was different.Only about 50% of the content was used, but the general drift made the point. The actors were very well cast,so the film was worth watching as a stand alone.
An amzing film that shows the real life of people in townships in South Africa. It shows great sceneries that i am soon to see and an accurate account of people and their attitudes in SA. Overall, i am very impressed with this film!
Excellent movie, very moving, violent and harrowing; truely depicts life in a South African township for the poor.....
This is a great film, I bought a copy of this film for a friend, whom I thought should see it. It is a story of redemption, one guys struggle to do the right thing when all the odds are stacked up against him, it is also about failure, bullets and love. Beautifuly filmed against a backdrop of shantytowns and amazing skies, this film is an incredible tour de force which can tear out your heart and leave it longing!
Very moving exelently made film, with an amazing soundtrack featuring Zola and Pitch Black Afro etc,
