About this product

Product Information

In the 21st century, genetic engineering makes possible the creation of biologically superior human specimens ("valids"), who then grow to positions of power and prestige. Would-be astronaut Vincent (Ethan Hawke) born the old-fashioned way, can only hope for a janitorial position at the elite Gattaca Corporation--until he buys the blood, urine, and identity of a perfect but paralyzed athlete. But a murder in the company's ranks attracts the attention of a detective who threatens to sniff Vincent out.

    DNA DOWN TO A SCIENCE!

I loved this movie a movie I could relate to. Gattaca takes place in the near future, were there are two types of individuals. It is a movie about discrimation and genetics. The movie arrived in great condition, but the security tab was placed on the disc. I thought the disc was damaged, and thought DVD/VHS player was ruined. Please do not put security strips on DVD. This was the only problem I had.

  • Science Gone Wrong

In the future genetic dictate every aspect of human life. Genetic testing is used to allow the elite to hold important jobs. They are the valids. People with any genetics handicaps are treated like second-class citizens. One man has a heart condition but fights it. He exceeds as everything. With help from a friend passes the tests to get a position in an important organization. The movie asks the question if there is a difference between genetic potential or mental motivation? Today with insurance companies test for genetic conditions to determine who their clients will be. Where will it end?

  • Gattaca - the short geek with glasses gets the girl

Gattaca is the ultimate geek movie for several reasons. First it's a story of redemption. Except the redemption comes from the outcast who is told he isn't smart; disproving it to all by sophisticated deception. The deception though could only be pulled off by the smartest of individuals. Vincent is such an individual. Vincent (played by Ethan Hawke) instead becomes both jock and nerd - also learning chemistry and biology in the process of covering up his identity. Second, Gattaca is an ultimate Geek movie, because the short guy with glasses gets the uber attractive girl. Gattaca centers around a type of "Brave New World" future where those born are genetically assigned to their place in society. Doctors are born doctors and the parents are made aware of it soon after conception. Once ...

  • Three sub-plots in perfect harmony. Mystery, love & destiny of a man following his impossible dream.

Never heard of this movie until I bought an Avanti, which is one of the cars driven "in the future." Great film! Says a lot about the notion we could actually improve on God's handiwork, without being overtly preachy. Storyline kept you guessing about the "who done it" all the while rooting for the guy working to fulfill his dream.

  • Makes you think

This movie has a compelling plot, well-developed characters, and suspense to make an enjoyable viewing experience for everyone. For those thinkers out there who like to have some mental stimulation, this movie is an A+. Though we don't have the highly advanced genetic technology (yet) displayed in the movie, you have to wonder if our culture today uses other methods to determine the have and the have-nots before they even have a chance.
