    OLYMPUS WS-311M

    Don't get me wrong. I like Olympus products. I have an Olympus D-550 Digital Camera that I have had for over 12 years and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, I bought this used and it never seems to work properly. It may be me, but it is supposed to be one of the easier to use digital recorders. I would go back a day later to find something I had recorded and it seemed to have disappeared. That is very frustrating. It has a complicated filing system. I no longer use it. No matter how I set it up, the sound sucks. So if you write songs and melodies, forget it. I went back to using a hand held cassette tape player. No learning curve On/Off Record Pause Erase. Still the sound isn't great but it is better than digital.

    A great pocket recorder!

    I found this to be a great pocket recorder! It was ready to use right out of the box, after installing the batteries, of course. It is very simple to understand the instructions and I had no problems following them. I was surprised to find that the sound quality of the recorder itself is much better than expected when played through headphones or on your computers speakers. I notice that others have complained about the sound quality coming from the internal speaker; it's only 5/8" diameter and it will Not be high fidelity, go figure! Playback through the internal speaker is to be used more for confirming that you have a recording than it would be for playback in front of an audience.     Good recorder, minor flaws, but nothing is perfect.

    This is a great recorder and gives a good quality recording. It's not the same as a serious digital recorder (marantz PMD 660 or equal) but it will allow you to record a meeting or make personal notes. The batteries last a very long time but when you run low on battery, it will not let you do anything until they are changed. I have been recording with no problem but when I stop the recording, I can'[t re-start without changing the battery. The volume on playback is about 10 - 15 db lower than I would expect it to be. If you are using it in the car - plugged into the IPOD jack on the car radio - you can't get the volume up loud enough to hear well.

    Awesome sound quality

    I purchased this recorder to record music rehearsals ect..It has EXCELLENT sound. Playing the recordings back on your headphones or computer come out crystal clear. It also has a USB port to download your recordings so you can make a CD. I am a professional, classical musician and I am super impressed with the clarity of the sound and the ease of ablitly to record all or sections of a rehearsal. I even use it to record accompaniments for myself and my studens to practice along with. I Highly recommend this recorder. To me, it is a excellent buy for the money.

    Good product -- While it lasts...

    This is the second one of these recorders that I have purchased. The first one that I bought was a refurbished one direct from Olympus. It came with a 90-day warranty. You guessed it - within days of being OUT OF WARRANTY, the LCD screen failed. Olympus wanted more to repair it than what I paid for it to begin with! I like the quality of the sound recording enough to buy another one but this time I bought a NEW one with a full one year warranty. I hope that I have better luck with it this time.
