Motorola Talkabout
Motorola's line of Talkabout two-way radios are great for personal communication. We use them mostly for camping where there is no cell phone service. Radios don't need to 'call a number'. They do need all be set up on the same channel and privacy codes. Other use scenarios would be outdoor events, large stores, They fit your hand nicely and are a comfortable weight, but that does depend on which batteries you use. Some battery types are heavier than others. They are all typically overrated on transmission distance. Don't even think about getting 25 or 15 or even 10 miles from one of these. A good rule of thumb is to estimate your useable transmission distance to be 1/10 of whatever they specify. They are not making false claims, just unrealistic NOAA weather feature is nice but depends ... Motorola's line of Talkabout two-way radios are great for personal communication. If so, that is specified. You do get better battery life from Alkaline AA cells than the rechargeable pack, however you need to replace them when they run down. .Battery life claims are also a bit overrated. Those maximum times are under standby conditions, not transmitting. Overall they are very good units, well built and durable. Store and on-line prices are a bit inflated, I've had excellent success with used units through eBay.

my expererience with these walkie talkies are awesome.
I bought the Motorola talkabout walkie talkies model mj270r because I use them solely outside when I go fishing to keep in touch with my fishing partner. and because of the 27 mile range. they are just the right shape and size for a person who has a small to medium hand it conforms your hand like a glove. I also like the feature of a built in flashlight. and also the feature of a usb. port at the bottom of each unit if you don't have a regular charger you can charge the battery pack from a usb data cable to your computer. I also like the clarity from these walkies. and are also user friendlythere is not anything I don't like about these walkie talkies compare to other walkie talkies. I would recommend these walkie talkies to anyone who is interested in the 27 mile range walkie talkies ... Even used these works the Best!!
I haven't owned many 2-way radio's in my past but the few that I have owned these Motorola MJ270R's are by far the best! We have no complaints about the range or the talk time of these. We mainly use them for our kids around our neighborhood to keep in touch with them and we have no problem talking to them inside or outside of homes within a 2 mile radius. Also, one full charge usually will hold for 3 to 4 days using the radio's about once every 30 minutes and leaving them on 3 to 4 hours per day.I haven't owned many 2-way radio's in my past but the few that I have owned these Motorola MJ270R's are by far the best!
