Tom Lehrer, long one of my father's favorites, has been one of my favorites since I was a child. His witty humor, fantastic piano playing and clever lyrics, though typically politically incorrect, still run through my head from time to time! This CD replaces the LP I grew up with, allowing me the freedom to listen to this silliness right in the car! My personal favorite of all the songs on this CD is the, "Irish Ballad." The lyrics are, well, disturbing, to say the least, and I won't tell you the punch line. I will give you the first two verses of this tale of a young Irish lass who, one by one, did in her entire family. "About a maid I'll sing a song, Sing rickety-tickety-tin, About a maid I'll sing a song, Who didn't have her fam'ly long. Not only did she do them wrong, She did ev'ryone of them in, them in, She did ev'ryone of them in. One morning in a fit of pique, Sing rickety-tickety-tin, One morning in a fit of pique, She drowned her father in the creek. The water tasted bad for a week, And we had to make do with gin, with gin, We had to make do with gin." If you like truly different music, and want to entertain your guests, try this one!Read full review
A reissue with some additional material of a Tom Lehrer live performance. The introductions to the songs are longer, and Tom's additional dry wit make it well worth an afidionaod's adding this to his/her collection.
Last time I heard TL was in 1960. One had to be there then to understand and appreciate the humor. The CD itself was of good quality.
