NotesSingle highlights disc. 2017 live release from the legendary vocalist. The Music... The Mem'ries... The Magic! Is the album of record for Barbra Streisand's triumphant concert tour of the same name in 2016. This collection impresses from the moment she begins to sing, and is a must for every Barbra Streisand fan. Barbra Streisand is the only recording artist in history to achieve a # 1 Album in six consecutive decades. She has recorded 52 gold, 31 platinum and 13 multi-platinum albums in her career. She is the only woman to make the All-Time Top 10 Best Selling Artists list. Streisand has had 34 albums make the Top 10 on the US charts. She is the only female artist to have achieved this milestone, tying her with Frank Sinatra. Streisand is the female artist with the most number one albums in Billboard s history. Streisand has attained unprecedented achievements as a recording artist, actor, concert performer, producer, director, author and songwriter. She has been awarded two Oscars, five Emmys, the Gold Globes and eight Grammys.
This is a remarkable album of Barbra in concert in 2016 singing truly eclectic songbook of her many astounding pieces of work over many decades. She also speaks much to the audience, very down to earth, very thoughtful, very witty, never ever sounding scripted. The album appeared and disappeared almost without a trace, on the Billboard album chart one week only and that in the 60s. The previous three albums came on the charts at number one. What happened here? It is no mystery. Columbia gave the album little publicity, Barbra did not do television or radio appearances centering on it, two versions were issued (not a good idea ever as the public is always confused with that), and because the songs were all well-known Streisand gems people (I guess) figured they had it all already. But they didn't! Everything here is approached in a new way to gorgeous arrangements. I have talked to so many people in the music business and they cannot figure out how such a titanic piece of work sunk so fast without the help of an iceberg. I've been giving the album to thrilled friends but its being almost invisible is a real head-scratcher.
