Synopsis
Lois Lowry once again creates a mysterious but plausible future world. It is a society ruled by savagery and deceit that shuns and discards the weak. Left orphaned and physically flawed, young Kira faces a frightening, uncertain future. Blessed with an almost magical talent that keeps her alive, she struggles with ever broadening responsibilities in her quest for truth, discovering things that will change her life forever. As she did in THE GIVER, Lowry challenges readers to imagine what our world could become, how people could evolve, and what could be considered valuable. Every reader will be taken by Kira's plight and will long ponder her haunting world and the hope for the future.

No problems. Items are always packaged well and arrive in a timely fashion. Good prices and good interactions. Thank you for a positive experience. I would add that although I didn't have an issue with this transaction, I've never had a problem with this seller that was not fixed to my satisfaction.

  • A WONDERFUL companion to the Giver--

This is the second in a loosely-tied series by Lois Lowry. Although Jonas or his society are not the focus of this novel, Kira's society has many eerie similarities to that of The Giver. Kira and her mother are both gifted weavers. When tragedy strikes Kira's family, she is forced to prove herself worthy of survival. (Kira's disability makes her "undesirable" to the other citizens.) She soon becomes a valuable member of the community by recording and repairing their woven history. In the book, Kira's new life of privilege is astonishing to her, as is her new lack of independence. The book has great themes that lead to great discussion. Don't miss the book Messenger, which ties Kira's and Jonas's societies together!

  • Book 2 in "The Giver" series? Really? Couldn't tell.

I was all set to give this book a 5 star rating right up until the ending. It ended very abruptly......no warning....nothing. Left you hanging big time. Up until that happened, I loved it. Beautiful story and amazing characters. I could not figure out why it was book 2 in "The Giver" series. Had nothing to do with the first one at all.

  • Review

I was expecting to receive a copy of the book with the cover pictures. Unfortunately that isn’t what I received. I was disappointed but used it as a learning experience.

  • One amazing book!

It was an amazing book, i wish everyone could get a chance to read it! I read it for the first time a couple years ago, and recently saw it on ebay so i decided to buy it and read it again! Its a book about a future society that strives to be perfect by lying to everyone that lives there. It tells the story or a little deformed girl trying not to be killed by everyone else living there. I would highly recommend you read it!
