    Great floor Tom mic!

The Audix D4 is a great mic for floor toms and even upright bass. Like Audix claims it's already pre-EQed and I just roll off some of the high end if cymbals are bleeding through on my recordings. As the Audix videos says on their YouTube videos you just point the mic head towards the center on the tom for the attack or angle towards the rim to gather more tone. I'm using the Audix D-vice with the D4 and it's super easy to install and adjust. I wrapped a dish towel around the D4 and wedged it between the tailpiece and body facing up towards the bridge on my Engelhardt M1 upright bass and a condenser mic pointing towards to the fingerboard get great upright bass recordings. Of course that setup would not work at a live gig but for recording it's fantastic. In the mix I add just a bit more ...

  • Audix D4 does the job inexpensively!

This a microphone that I bought specifically for a 16'floor tom. Not only would it be my mic of choice for that but it it also great for recording bass guitar cabinets, guitar cabinets, and kick drums. Audix lists horns and Leslies as well and that makes sense. This is my first Audix mic and I'm interested now in the other mics that are part of the DP5 set which contains a D4 for floor tom, two D2's for rack toms, a D6 kick mic, and a I5 snare mic. Now that I've used the D4, I'd definitely buy more Audix mics. The Audix I5 versus the venerable Shure SM57 on youtube shootouts have made me very interested in that mic as well. More top end and less midrange honk is what I heard from the Audix I5 which was nice on snare and guitar cabs. The Audix D4 is small, is easy to position, sounds ...

  • Good Priced Floor Tom Mic!

Audix D4 microphone is an excellent addition to any drum microphone collection. Great results when used in combination with the Audix D6 kick mic and the Audix i5 snare mic. The D4 has character, but no as substantially noticeable as the D6 kick mic. But, that is not a bad thing either. Especially, if you desire distinct track and frequency separation! Rolling off low during the eq process will lead to a serious low end reduction that most speaker system will be unable to reproduce anyways. Take out the muddiness, and the results are amazing. Really like the natural drum sound produced from this mic after proper eq and stereo panning. Rolls sound so wonderful. The d4 is bold, yet it is not overly invasive to the rest of the mix. Low noise ratio-not too bad of bleed pickup from other ...

  • Makes Miking Floor toms easy Set the gain, HPF on, EQ off, & away we go !

This is my second D4, As a floor tom Mic I love them I tend to mic square on to the skin and these mic's give me what I want, much better for the way i work than the Sennheisers, and far better than a 57 with D2's on the other toms and this on a floor tom , I get a good balance and with minor adjustments in position, I can usually get the sound I want without any EQ, so Bypass the EQ and improve the overall S/N ratio. and no EQ means the sound smacks you in the face a little better this on floor toms and D2's on rack toms and sound checks become easy and fast. No More hours banging on drums getting a sound, HPF on EQ off set the gains and (usually) away we go.

  • Beefy and fat for floor toms

Great mix for floor toms. Requires a hefty scoop out of the low-mids to sound natural for my taste, however. I'd prefer a mic with less mids and more attack. With proper EQ, it sounds full and natural. Great companion to the Audix D2 on rack toms. Easy to place on the drum due to small size and weight. I use Audic rim clamps and they work fine and fit in the mic pouches with the mics.
