no too bad for an analog amp simulator

Great pedal
I'm using this as an ovedrive, and it has done amazing things to the clean channel an overly-bright FM65r. Turning in to one of my favorite OD's in 30 yrs of playing. Definitely on the warm/dark side, and probably not so great for an already warm sounding amp, but considering how sturdy this thing feels, the price, and the fact that it added no noise or hum to an already busy pedal board, I wouldn't hesitate to try out another one of these, or any other Joyo pedals for that matter. A bit too scooped.
This is a clone of the Tech21 California pedal, but it is way more scooped and tight than the original. In reviewing, I found that Joyo got the value of one of the capacitors in the speaker sim wrong. I changed mine & then it sounded much closer to the original. It's usable in stock form, but is extremely tight. The mod simply adds a lot more upper mids. If you want a very tight scooped agressive sound, this will nail it. It sounds like a heavily processed Mesa Dual Rec. It's such a deal that I've bought a few & modified them for friends to use as a backup high-gain rig. Personally, I much prefer to use the Joyo American with a more dynamic pedal like a MI Audio Tube Zone in front as a high-gain "rig in a box".This is a clone of the Tech21 California pedal, but it is way more scooped and tight than the original.
