Reviews
"I know of know of no other book than the present volume by Wouter Schmitz that presents all these topics in one connected story, using a bare minimum of mathematical notation and certainly no calculus. ... The non-specialist who perseveres will be rewarded with a surprisingly complete overview of particle physics ... . The author is to be applauded for his ambitious goals in writing this book, and in successfully providing relatively informal accounts of a remarkable amount of material." (Peter J. Bussey, Contemporary Physics, September 23, 2019) "This book offers a world of insight into the building blocks of our universe and the forces which govern them. ... Overall a very useful introductory book for particle physicists." (T. C. Mohan, zbMATH 1422.81007, 2019), "This book offers a world of insight into the building blocks of our universe and the forces which govern them. ... Overall a very useful introductory book for particle physicists." (T. C. Mohan, zbMATH 1422.81007, 2019)

Synopsis
How can fundamental particles exist as waves in the vacuum? How can such waves have particle properties such as inertia? What is behind the notion of "virtual" particles? Why and how do particles exert forces on one another? Not least: What are forces anyway? These are some of the central questions that have intriguing answers in Quantum Field Theory and the Standard Model of Particle Physics. Unfortunately, these theories are highly mathematical, so that most people - even many scientists - are not able to fully grasp their meaning. This book unravels these theories in a conceptual manner, using more than 180 figures and extensive explanations and will provide the nonspecialist with great insights that are not to be found in the popular science literature.

- e***v (127)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseOverall, it went well. Good communication. I wanted the book to be shipped in a box, because the value and scarcity of the volume I purchased deserved it, however, the company is too large and I was informed the book would be shipped in a plastic mailer. Somehow it didn’t arrive very damaged, a little bump, but for the price I can’t complain. Over all I am satisfied, but if you’re a book collector, as I am, you may want to find another seller.Aurora: The Dayspring, or Dawning of the Day in the East, Boehme, Jacob, 9781558 (#236039083546)
- s***a (776)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThis company has been, in my experience, a mixed bag. This title was NOT worth the price because it came with highlighting, ink underlineing & writing in the margins...not the quality that they advertised. I have on other occasions gotten books in great condition, however, that were listed in less than the condition advertised so it goes both ways...but I'd much prefer a company that delivers exactly what they advertise. I guess good help is hard to find. The book was well packaged & came fast.
- r***s (229)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseGreat seller The price of the book was very reasonable for me Fast shipping and the book arrived on time The condition of the book is exactly as described and the package was well packaged and the appearance of the book and the package was very goodForbidden Passages: Muslims and Moriscos in Colonial Spanish America (The Early (#335842765317)
