  • Sweeney Todd is for the ages.

It depends on whether one is a Stephen Sondheim fan. All art and books are subjective. I for one, do love his work. I recently saw the 2023 Broadway production starring Josh Groban, Annaleigh Ashford; co-starring Gaten Matarazzo, Jordan Fisher, Maria Bilbao, Jamie Jackson, John Rapson, Nicholas Christopher, and Ruthie Ann Miles. For anyone who saw this production, or other productions such as the legendary 1979 original Broadway cast starring Angela Lansbury, Len Cariou and Victor Garber; or the 2006 Revival starring Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris- seeing the lyrics and stage directions to dive into a more nuanced analysis, this is an excellent read.
