A step up from the more common 5.1 surround sound, this system adds two additional rear speakers. It uses a single front center speaker, two front stereo speakers, a speaker to each side, and two speakers to the rear. That gives it a total of seven channels. The .1 refers to a subwoofer. With 110 watts per channel, this Sony receiver will make all of your speakers earn their keep. Of course, it also has a headphone jack for those times when you need to keep it quiet.Two HDMI inputs allow you to connect dual HD sources, such as your gaming console and DVD player. I Expected Better
This Sony , the first thing you will notice is that it gets very hot ,.. so you can't put anything on top of it . For Me , The Optical input drastically reduced the volume output connected to my TV. I pushed it up to about 50% which is more than I want to before I got that Theater sound . The Bass and treble are almost non existent or respond very poorly which is important if you want to watch a movie and hear crisp tink tink tink sound or thunder. This unit is also very difficult to set up. The manual is 99 pages long and without it , you are lost .. A lot of Presets that include such " Hold this Button for 5 seconds till this pops up then press this . The remote control is Awesome , HUGE almost 1 foot long . Great easy to see controls .powered by 2 AA batteries . Gold Star for that. The volume I expected more from 100+ watts , very disappointing . The quality of the sound seems poor compared to other receivers I have . I didn't get that WOW experience from it . ..Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

The Stereo Receiver is a very good amp. Does it sound Good? - is not a question of the amp but the quality of the speakers. There is no hum or distortion through out its volume range. It is not the easiest of receivers to set up. You have to have its manual to fully understand what it can and cannot do. The manual is available online for downloading.
