I was a bit nervous when I received this, as no quick start instructions were included and I am definitely not very tech savvy. However, the reader was very easy to register, set up, and use. I am loving it. I've got a pile of "real" books to read, but am wanting to use the e-reader all the time instead. I've already figured out how to borrow eBooks from my library, and to download a few from Amazon and other sites. It is really light-weight and easy to hold. Open box model came with surface defects and scratches but screen was perfectly fine. Easy set up. Came with original box. Was disappointed since I thought this one was back lit. Nice Reader, over complicated operating system
this is a decent reader, and the light is needed because it lacks the book like reading of my kindle touch. lying in bed you have no choice, but it uses the light because the screen is dark without a light source. with a light over head or in sunlight it looks like a book but in shadows it shows the low quality of the screen which is why they added the light to it. if you can get it cheap its a good buy just doesn't set your expectations high cause it will disappoint you. the operating system is a little hard to get use to because they try to make it like a phone but its harder to operate with all the different ways to touch the screen to get it to work. when using the light at half brightness the batter frains fast you will get around 10 hours of reading.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Fast shipping. The Kindle 8th gen is the most basic out of all current Kindles, and also the most affordable. But this shouldnt fool anyone; this is a reading machine like never before, with double the ram and flash memory as its predecessor. I am really happy to be able to own a product specifically for reading, as it does not distract me with messages or pop ups.
