Simply a very good basic lens

I may be new to photography but I'm experienced at taking photos and this lens was an excellent buy on ebay. The lens on my Rebel T2i stopped working on auto focus, I wanted a quick replacement and came upon the EF III. It's nothing new to me because it's the same lens that's on my Rebel XT. It worked well on my XT and works just as well on my T2I. Simply a very good basic lens that gets the job done.

  • Learner Lens

I bought the Canon EF 35-80mm lens because I had just bought my first DSLR and it was an affordable alternative to the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Canon 1000D XS. New DSLR camera owners who are not seasoned photographers are going to quickly discover that lenses are the real investment in the world of SLR and DSLR cameras. I don't recommend going into this world without doing some serious homework on optics and it is the optics that really make the picture. Most of the lenses recommended by the pros cost significantly more than the commercially priced DSLR camera bodies being sold today (Dec-2009). The kit lenses that are sold with new Canon cameras are rarely of any quality to the pros, however they are the lenses that most people shoot their first pictures with. The Canon EF ...

  • Good but not great

This is a pretty good lens. When it is a bright day outside with ample light this lens works amazingly. It's only when you start shooting in not-perfect conditions where this lens starts to be less-than-spectacular. I am in the process of looking for a new lens to upgrade from this one, but this is definitely a good starters lens and offers enough flexibility to shoot landscapes, macro, and portraits. PROS: - pretty good range. 35mm gives you decent wide angle and the 80mm is respectable when zooming in on close-range objects - good image quality under good conditions - fairly flexible CONS: - 33mm and 80mm are both good, but neither great - good pictures can be hard to come by under less-than-perfect conditions - relatively slow autofocus Overall, this is a good beginner's lens. ...

  • An excellent choice for an excellent lens!

I had purchased a Canon EOS D30 (No. NOT a 30D! They're different, dang it!) camera from Ebay so I could sell, ironically, much of the 35mm film gear I had amassed over the last 40+ years. I bought this 35-80mm Canon zoom from Ebay mostly because of the macro feature, which works beautifully BTW! When I took the lens out of the box, I was amazed at its weight. Or the lack thereof. I was used to my Minolta and Pentax lenses going "thud" on the table. So the first thing that went through my mind was "Oh, boy. Cheap-o!" Wrong! The quality of the images I took were outstanding in every way and the lens's functionality and operation were superb! The lens performed well beyond my expectations! The auto focus worked quietly, smoothly, and cobra-quick! I love the way the light weight lets me wield ...

  • Less than expected

Upon receiving this lens I mounted it to my T6 and put it through testing. I noticed that at the 50mm focal point that the lens was very loose and sloppy . It didn’t seem to affect the focus much but it was something that had to be paid attention to. For the price I suppose I can’t complain but I will have to get it looked at to see if it can be repaired. All in all it functions.
