"A fresh and timely translation of the Septuagint. I enthusiasticall endorse this new translation. All those involved in this admirable project are to be congratulated for their contribution to raising Septuagint studies to the level of intensity and interest achieved by its sister fields of the Hebrew OT and the Greek NT." --Radu Gheorghita,Journal of the Evangelical Theology Society, "A fresh and timely translation of the Septuagint. Synopsis
The Septuagint (the ancient Greek translation of Jewish sacred writings) is of great importance in the history of both Judaism and Christianity. The first translation of the books of the Hebrew Bible (plus additions) into the common language of the ancient Mediterranean world made the Jewish scriptures accessible to many outside Judaism. Notonly did the Septuagint become Holy Writ to Greek speaking Jews but it was also the Bible of the early Christiancommunities: the scripture they cited and the textual foundation of the early Christian movement.Translated from Hebrew (and Aramaic) originals in the two centuries before Jesus, theSeptuagint provides important information about the history of the text of the Bible. For centuries, scholars have looked to the Septuagint for information about the nature of the text and of how passages and specific words were understood. For students of the Bible, the New Testament in particular, the study of the Septuagint's influence is a vital part of the history of interpretation. But until now, the Septuagint has not been available to English readers in a modern andaccurate translation. The New English Translation of the Septuagint fills this gap., The Septuagint (the ancient Greek translation of Jewish sacred writings) is of great importance in the history of both Judaism and Christianity. I am very pleased with the price of this new book (the lowest I found). I'm happy with the prompt shipping. The only problem was that the box was damaged during shipping. The new book itself sustained very minor cosmetic damage, no doubt from rough handling. The seller offered to send me a return label at no cost, which I do appreciate. However, I was able to repair the slight damage very easily. Thanks again for your concern.

  • There Are Better Septuagint Editions

I researched the Septuagint for a long time and I only ordered this version because I got a really good price and free shipping from the vendor. Pros: It is a beautiful, well-made and bound hardback book. I give it one star for this. Cons: What a waste of money! Overall it has been a real disappointment. The paper is thin but slightly better than the Lexham English Septuagint. The glowing reviews here or elsewhere seem to be coming from people who are not seasoned Christians with decades of experience in Bible study and Bible manuscript history. This edition of the Septuagint, if you want to call it a "Septuagint" edition, is not for daily study but is more of an academic college textbook for advanced study by graduate students who desire to specialize in Old Testament manuscripts and ...
