Okay~~~have to admit I bought this dessert book out of curiosity because my idea of Asian desserts was a fortune cookie! Turns out there is a whole lot more to Asian desserts than we were aware of until now. Pichet Ong has been known in the New York restaurant community as a prime exponent of Asian style desserts. There is a difference in our chocolate laden desserts and luscious pies and brownies than what the Asian people consider dessert. They rely heavily on tropical fruits, which most of us are now able to buy in our own markets. Ong successfully demystifies the exotic sweets. He explains all you need to know about possibly unfamiliar ingredients. I have tried a few recipes, on the easy side to start off. One was the banana cake made with baby bananas and the peanut turnovers. Both were very good! The book has many beautiful color photos throughout to help you see what a dish is suppose to look like. Now is your chance to cook with some of those exotic fruits that you had no idea what in the world they were when you passed them on your shopping trips. And....since most of the dishes are fruit based, I consider these healthier recipes.Read full review
