I have a few readers and a kindle keyboard was the first I had. When it finally died recently I realised I missed it over and above the newer styles as the old faithful with long battery life, good memory size and ease of adding content. It's not for browsing the internet, watching video or playing apps I can do that on the iPad mini or kindle fire. This is an ereader in the purest sense and all the better for the lack of distraction. It is also easy to read in full sunlight where the Matt screen is a real advantage.

It is a tablet of long standing and has proved its worth. Its big brother is of the same parts however it also has 3 G which gives it the edge but that does not detract from the quality or the value of this model! There are so many features that are included for example the brightness, to the adjustment of the size of print to suit your taste it is all in all a most suitable tablet to suit all tastes. The selection of books that are made available each day for as little as 99p! Buy and enjoy!

works exactly as it should although it was a pain to register it and had to use the webchat for it to work correctly. Battery last well and nice and clear screen. Super easy to use as "old fashioned" buttons and a keyboard. You can choose the font, serifs, word size, space size between lines , etc

Early kindle but very well-made and easily serviced. Its thickness means screws are used where later thinner models are just stuck together with gunge. The 3g model is a tour-de-force and not being a touchscreen means no greasy marks. One-handed operation. Why don't Amazon make a Paperwhite with buttons?

Bought this as a present for my wife, she had this version of the kindle originally but when it died after many years of use she purchased one of the newer touch screen kindles. She really hasn't taken to it and is always harking back to how good the original one was. She loves this one, although refurbished it arrived looking like new and works just as well as she remembers the original one working. Fast efficient delivery and well worth buying.

At about the same price, should 1 get this or 7" Amazon Fire? This 1 can use dictionary properly, not needs to be charged as often, doesn't hyphenate words at end of line, read in sunshine, copy part of book & type notes (this can be done with app. on PC). Fire can do many other things, the chose = yours.

Had to buy this version second-hand (Amazon no longer produce it) to replace my long-serving original model, now battery-dead. I quite like the new touchscreen Paperwhite version but I missed my dear old keyboard model. It's much easier with the keyboard to look up dictionaries and that's the most important feature for me.

I like this old type kindle you can put music on it, had one for years squashed it on holiday so bought this one. Its very good. Shame its lost the ability to access internet and download directly I never knew the facility was gone, I remember browsing and buying books on a beach in the canaries, it was brilliant.

I bought the Kindle Keyboard because I don't have a lot of space to store books. I love the sharp screen, superb, and the features to modify font size and screen orientation. Set up is fairly easy, you name the product and register it on amazon, and then you input your wireless network (in my case, broadband home network). This model does not have the 3G option. Dowloading books to the Kindle from the Amazon site is easy, although I prefer to do it from my laptop rather than from the kindle, as it is a more joyful experience. Amazon has a good choice, also a good number of free paperbacks, classic etc. You can also download 'out of copywright' books kept in Internet libraries to your PC and transfer them to your kindle in Mobi format. You do this by connecting kindle to laptop with the USB provided and copy them over. Personal documents and Pdf files can be tranferred by sending an email to a free service at yourusername@kindle.com. It will then show up on your kindle. Amazon will store a copy of your downloaded books on its sites (although it will not store personal documents or documents copied over) so if you accidentally delete a book, you can redownload it. After a while, you probably have more books than you can read in a lifetime, but it is nice to have them, portable, in one place. Since I use it to read, I switch off the wireless network as it consumes the battery, and only switch the reader on when I read. In this way, so far, the battery lasted about 3 weeks before needing a charge. As you read, your can access an inbuilt dictionary, and also comments by other people if you are that way inclined(with wireless on). Reading takes a while to get used to. I found the best way to read is to have it in landscape mode, because you have more characters to read per line. In portrait, each line seems too short. The disadvantage with landscape is that you only see 1/3 of a page at a time. One irritating thing is that the page does not automatically show the page number you're at,only the percentage of the book you have read. You have to press the menu button to call up page number. In addition, you can go to a location in the book, such as cover, beginning and end, or specific page. If, however, you want to go back to a chapter because you forgot some info, and you don't know which one, you can't leaf through the book... You can jump from chapter to chapter, but you are a bit disorientated. The internet facility is not a joy, but you can get subscriptions to periodicals etc, although I have not tried it. Big personal documents with tables (e.g. in Word) can be easily transferred by email, but you cannot navigate them well, precisely because you can't easily know which page you want to go to. All in all, I love this product. I cannot compare it to others because I have not explored the others in depth. My choice was made by knowing Amazon, and knowing the wide availability of books they have. I don't know if other readers do the same.Read full review
Had read a lot about the Kindle before I bought one. It has done everything I expected. The screen is easy to read in all conditions of natural light or in the dark with a clip on LED. Very easy on the eye with the abillity to change text size too. Books are easy to download from Amazon, or if bought on Ebay, just cut and pasted onto the Kindle. PDF is not so good but other epub formats work OK or can be easily reformatted. Its a shame the charges lead is not a normal mini USB lead like my Android phone (also with the Kindle software on for reading the Kindle books) and its not possible to organise collections on the computer and transfer to the Kindle, you have to do it on the Kindle Screen. There is a browser option which works, a method of having the books read to you via an "electronic" voice and a built in dictionary plus other on screen options. I bought it to replace paper back books for normal everyday life. It does the job admirably.Read full review
