Lower your expectations
I bought these 100 dollar headphones expecting them to be a certain quality. They do sound better than your average earbuds, having more bass etc. but the high end still has that bad tinny sound. I really don't like the "light weight" construction, especially the whispy thin non coiled cord that undoubtedly reduces the sound quality. I would not buy these again, but I will keep them.

I expected quality out of this, being a Yamaha, but it is rather mediocre. Thin, muddy, and colored. Unexpectedly strong bass boost coupled with boosted upper middle frequencies. It ends up shrill and tinny in sound, but alright at very low volume where ambient sounds may easily render it inaudible. At least it is comfortable. The cable doesn't look like it will last very long, but it is fixed, not detachable, so it will probably need to be repaired after a snag or two. I did not expect too much out of this given the price, but I am still disappointed, good grief. "Neutral tone" says Yamaha. Missed the mark by quite a bit, though I've heard worse. These headphones delivery exactly the sound that they are build for, at a fraction of price purpose from their competitors. The sound is a natural totally balanced one without increased high or lower frequencies, that's what you need when expecting an acoustic sound. The construction at first glance when you open the box is surprising, you think that the plastic is low quality for the price, but when you place then in your head you can feel the comfort given by the lower weight, and surprise surprise, no parasite noises.
