Being a fan of the AIP beach party series of films, as well as the associated films-"Ghost in the Invisible Bikini," "Fireball 500," "Ski Party," etc., I am defintely into Dr. Goldfoot! Now, as far as the quality of this film, this is your typical farce-rock and roll-bikini clad beauties movie, that Frankie Avalon is known for. I find this movie more funny and entertaining, than the usual formula stylings of this collection. Vincent Price's performance is good, as you would expect, and his assistant is equally astute in his role of being the flunky. I also liked how Frankie and Dwayne Hickman, played off of each other (they were also quite good in "Ski Party"). The cameo's of other beach movie alumnus added to the fun of the movie, not too mention ripping off one of Mr. Prices other movie. Yes, this movie does have some silly parts, even for my tastes, yet is rather unique in its plot, since Frankie does not do any singing, and the Bikini machine aspect is almost touching on science fiction/james bond genre. Recommended if you like this type of frivolity.Read full review
This film is a 60's funfest reminiscent of the beach movies made during this period. Vincent Price plays Dr. Goldfoot, who creates bikini-clad robots to charm rich guys out of their money. But his inept assistant Igor always finds a way to mess things up for Goldfoot. Frankie Avalon and Dwayne Hickman also appear in this flick with cameo appearances by fellow beach film co-stars Annette Funicello and Harvey Lembeck. A fun-filled 89 minutes of hilarity.
Yeha! good movie and nice special efx! I like stuff on Ebay! It's creative, innovative inventory makes it gooood!
One of my favourite movies from my childhood, & depending on your tolerance for sixties comedy, this silly spy spoof (think "Beach Party" meets James Bond) is great fun with star Vincent Price having a grand old time sending up his sinister screen image. Plus it has the beautiful & talented Susan Hart who spends half her time in a golden bikini & what is probably some of the greatest theme music ever with vocals by The Supremes. Why, then, did I only give it a "Good" rating instead of "Excellent"? Well, it's mainly to do with the lack of extras. Sure, it has a nice trailer but nothing that goes into the history of this funny film. Originally meant to be a campy musical, all the songs were edited out before release. However, there was an episode of the TV series "Shindig!" called the "The Wild Weird World of Dr. Goldfoot" available elsewhere on DVD that has said songs & its own little story to go with them, & that would have been a fantastic bonus feature for this disc. Also, since this was released as part of the "Midnite Movies" series which is known for its double features, why oh why didn't it include the Italian-made sequel "Dr. Goldfoot & the Girl Bombs" directed by Mario Bava? Still, as is it has a lot going for. Picture & sound are good, & there are cool cameos mixed in with the insanity up on screen, so it will do for now until the full Goldfoot trilogy is finally released on DVD.Read full review
The successful spoofs Mike Meyers has been doing, most recently "Goldmember" owes it's mad capped nonsense to those who have boldly gone before him...namely Vincent Prince! In his run of movies for AIP and Roger Corman, he also did a couple of gems - the other "Comedy of Terrors" *****, and they make a great popcorn double-feature for a Saturday Night. Both movies showcase the rarely seen fun-side of the very talented Vincent Price. In Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine - total mindless fun - Dr. Goldfoot (Price - a sly, wicked performance having a hoot of a time) has made a machine to manufacture a bikini clad army of robots who are programmed to seek out wealthy men, marry them and charm them into signing over their assets, before bumping them off. With passing pokes at Princes own AIP films and the Bond films, it is good giggles. Not as sharp as "Comedy of Terrors", it's still great for Prince Fans, people who enjoyed Myers spy spoofs, or those looking for a time-capsule blast from the past, this is an enjoyable diversion! With Frankie Avalon, Craig Steven, Dwayne Hickman, Deborah Wally turning in good support performances, the Supremes giving a catching theme song, and claymation credits it's perfect popcorn fun. Give a skip on the sequel - Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs - not as stylishly doneRead full review
