This is an excellent product. It comes with preloaded maps and you can buy unlimited satellite maps with a years subscription for $29. The large screen is so much better than my other units because of this. It takes an afternoon to set up everything so that you can navigate quickly when out hiking. The startup is slow. A very nice feature is the ability to use the lithium battery it comes with or use 3 AA batteries. I have had a GPS for my outdoor activities for over ten years. The 610t is a big advancement.

It might be me, but this gps is not at all as easy to use as my Oregon was. I've had to call Garmin customer service about 5 times to have them help me with different issues. I set it up for geocaching, but when I put in coordinates, the brown box that is up at the top only works for geocaching, not waypoints. I have to go to the compass for that, which means I can't see the map. I bought the SW maps, but the trails don't show. No wonder Garmin stopped making this unit. My phone is better to use for geocaching than this uniit.

I am a technology "idiot", in that I have trouble using my smart phone, etc. However, I found the Garmin Montana 610t to be very easy to use. There wasn't a huge learning curve, for the purpose I wanted the device for (rock hounding). I was able to see where I was, and ensure that I was not trespassing. I was using the OnX Hunt chip, for my state, to verify that I knew where I was. It was also very easy to access the data on the chip, with the Montana 610t. I do find the "arrow", that indicates where I am, to be a bit bothersome, in that it blocked some of the boundary lines I was trying not to cross. I didn't mess with it, much, before I went on my trip, so I'm sure I will figure out more, in time. The included rechargeable battery lasted a long time, in my opinion. I think I'll find this device to be very helpful in keeping myself out of trouble.Read full review

I have been using the Montara 610 for about a month now and I'm impressed with it so far. Its pretty easy to use right out of the box but i would suggest downloading the manual and going over the functions that you will be using instead of relying on the quick start sheet that comes with it. It finds the satellites very fast. The large screen is very helpful but in bright sun light I have to turn the screen light up in order to see it and that eats the battery up fast but I can still use it all day. Mine came with a years free subscription to birdseye and I like it a lot. I did have to install an extra memory card to hold all of the birdseye maps that I downloaded. All in all you get a very good piece of equipment for the price and I would recommend it. The woods that I hunt and fish are very dense, grown up thickets with lots of tall cane and vines. I rely on the montana 610 to get me in and out of the woods and it has not failed me.Read full review

The product will do what you need if you know how to use it. I grew up without all this technology, so it is all learn as you go for me. It does not come natural like it does for some people.
