Incredible lens for the price if you understand it's limitations. This is my favorite lens to leave on my camera and I love wide angle shots. If you shoot it wide open at night for astrophotography or in bright light then check the corners you will find falloff and softness. However, for half the price of a used 16-35 the compromise is worth it. It's so well made it's a work of art. You can find morons on YouTube babbling about how bad this lens is all day long but if you actually like to take pictures you'll love this lens. There's a reason why nikon still makes it today.

enter the beast! if you are looking for something cheap, small and built poorly, there are many offerings from other lens manufacturers in this configuration. but none, like this one. the 17-35 brilliantly merely doubles its focal length and thus allows the intelligent use of optic configuration to make this the lens that every nikon user, from film cameras to digital bodies, the one to use. fast af focusing, large zoom and manual focusing rings. aperture control on the lens, as it is a D model make this an exceptional optical performer. the performance, at all apertures is sharp, from edge to edge. excellent contrast and something you never want to drop on your foot! this is one of the few lenses that will serve 99% of all photo applications.

I use the Nikon 17-35 f2.8 lens on both my d810 and d500. This is s great lens! Nikon still makes them new, due to demand and they sell them for almost $2,000.00 dollars! I like the ability to use 77mm filters, unlike with the Nikon 14-24 f2.8. Even just to be able to put a clear protection filter. I would buy this lens again. I also own the Nikon 20-35 f2.8, the predecessor to the 17-35. The 17-35 is much better than the 20-35 in range, focus speed and sharpness.

Superb edge to edge sharpness, with excellent image resolution even wide open (f2.8) and at most focal lengths. Fills a great range of fixed lens settings too. Not sure how I can fault this lens in function, but by itself it's one heavy hunk of glass and with the case it becomes a little bit of a storage issue when going mobile (backpack or daypack). Overall, excellent lens and a great value if you can find it in good condition used.

I read a lot of reviews about what type of lens to buy for a wide angle low F stop lens. After reading the reviews by professional and amateur photographers, I decided to move forward with the 17-35 mm wide angel f2.8 lens. I use different types of filters in my photography, this was another reason to purchase this particular lens. It does have 77mm filter size like my other lens so need to purchase different sizes of filters. The lens has a smooth, noise free focus. Unlike some of the reviews I read were it was factor. Pictures are clear and crisp. I have only taken a few pictures with it. I will be taking it to shoot some winter landscapes tomorrow. The only draw back so far is the weight of the lens.
