Original Megaman finishes with a bang!
Megaman 8 is the last installment of the regular Megaman series, and was released for Playstation (1) and Sega Saturn. The version to own if you can swing it is definitely the Saturn version, as it has considerably more features and goodies, including two hidden mini-bosses: Cutman and Woodman, for fans of the older games (but you don't get their weapons :( ). Megaman 8 features excellent tried and true Capcom 2D illustration and smooth animation, fun sound effects, character voicing (though Megaman himself has a squeaky girl voice, which irritates a lot of players, but I think it adds to his charm :) ), and an excellent sound track. Standard Megaman play control, as well as a few levels that feature shoot-em-up and skateboard style play control for some variety. There are about 5 or 6 ... There are about 5 or 6 anime cut scenes, illustrating a fun-loving simplistic but enjoyable plotline, as are most Megaman games. Megaman 8 does a great job of featuring old enemies, in fact over 75% of the enemies are recognizable old NES enemies redone in 32-bit semi-3D. Megaman 8's plot line unfortunately does not absolutely finish the original Megaman series' plot, nor does it segue into the Megaman X plotline in the least, which is unfortunate. However, it is a truly necessary part of any Megaman fan's collection, since it was the last edition to the original series, and Capcom really put their best foot forward on it, there is a lot of quality in the experience, and it stays very true to Megaman traditions. There's also an opportunity to collect "bolts" as currency in Dr. Light's store to purchase items that customize the way Megaman plays, including changing his Megabuster type and increasing his climbing and sliding speeds. Rush is noticably less useful, however the bosses' weapons are considerably more useful, not just as offensive weaponry, but also as tools. In fact one stage is entirely dedicated to using all the weapons you have earned by that point as tools to get through the level. The additional features of the Saturn version include appearances by Cutman and Woodman, an art gallery of fan art as well as official art, and a sound test, which includes the bonus sound tracks for Woodman and Cutman which are remixes of their old stages' themes. The sound track is all electronic tone tracks, a very cohesive set that fits the mood perfectly, and even makes for good study or driving music. The colors in the graphics are bright, bold, and fun, as the old Megaman series was. It's definitely geared more toward the 10 year old audience, but it's very enjoyable and still challenging.

Of the seventy or so Sega Saturn games I've tested or played on my Sega Saturn system, Mega Man 8: Special Anniversary Edition has the cleanest graphics. Game-play seems to be a perfect blend of puzzle and reflex style platforming. By this I mean that it is a platformer - you have to get from point A to point B. But you have to find the right way to get from A to B while quickly avoiding incoming fire and bombs and moving platforms that may drop from under your feet at any moment. Another reviewer here on ebay mentioned that Mega Man talks like a little girl - well, yeah...this is true. Maybe there's a time warp thing and he's really Mega Boy? So what? The level designs are crisp & clean. The obstacles, both environmental and enemy robots or beings, are clever and totally enjoyable ... It is our new favorite game on the Sega Saturn system and I recommend it for anyone who loves platformers or Sega or Mega Man. Should be added to ALL Sega Saturn collections. That I know of, this is the ONLY Mega Man game ever ported to a Sega system in the US. FIND and BUY this game, then PLAY!

Overall a gem of a game but doesn't run anywhere near what was promised.
The game disk will freeze occasionally at the opening capcom logo which is unskippable and you have to skip the opening cutscene in order to prevent the game from freezing. If you follow these steps with the disk you can play through the game but you have to skip all but the middle of the game cutscene and the ending cutscene so overall the game does pass as a working game and given the rarity of the disk I decided just to keep it since it does mostly work but I'd like to pinpoint the gamedisk was defined as playing perfectly so I nearly did return the disk because of the fmv and disk freezing problems. This game is truly a classic. Mega Man 8 is my favorite of all the Mega Man games. Despite the fact that Mega Man sounds like a little girl when he talks, that shouldn't keep you from picking this game up. Like the other reviewer stated, this is available on the Saturn and Playstation. The difference in the Saturn version is the extra characters Cut Man and Wood Man. You do battle with these two and get bolts to make upgrades to Mega Man after defeating them. Also Tengu Man's level music is different(Playstation's Tengu Man level music is better IMO). You also get a Bonus Mode and get to check out animation(I don't know why this wasn't available for PS). The backgrounds are nicely done and the bosses are quite amusing(Frost Man: "I'll crush you. Frost Man's level can be a pain towards the end when you have to keep sliding and jumping while dodging enemies and traps. Wily Stage 1 is like that towards the end also. Astro Man's level can get on your nerves too before you get to the maze part of it, but after that it isn't too bad. I played this game so much, it is not a problem for me. Be prepared to put up a fight with Wily at the end. Strategy will play a major part in the Final Battle. Mega Man 8 is definitely worth buying.

Great classic game! It’s a shame how high the price has become with these classic games but had to spend the $350 for this one before it gets any higher. This version of the game is the best with the ability to fight against Cutman and Woodman unlike the ps1, along with some other better features. If you can get this one for a reasonable price then definitely add this one to your collection.
