About this product

Product Information

Portal is a 3D puzzle game played from a first-person perspective. The object is to advance through a series of rooms by using a gun to create a means of escape. Instead of lasers or bullets, the gun fires one of two opposing portal types: orange and red. One could be used as an entrance, while the other used as an exit. Portals can be fired on most surfaces, and the gun can also be used to pick up and toss objects. Storage and weighted "companion" cubes found within rooms are creatively used to activate switches, knock out security droids, and more. Turret guns, toxic liquid, crushing walls, and other hazards must also be avoided throughout play. A sarcastic, female-voiced computer will monitor your performance and serves as a droll guide for each area. In addition to the main game, players can unlock both a challenge and an advanced mode for more deviously designed puzzles and goals.

  • Very Interesting!

First off, I am a middle aged gamer. I look for PC games with twisting storylines and character development. Portal did not meet either of these requirements. In fact, the "story" and main "character" left me with more questions than answers. Mind you, I did not play the game with the assistance of developer commentary (a main scren option). I think Valve answers some questions there. I wanted to, however, experience the game with no knowledge of what was to come. Although I did read three reviews of the game. I was pleasantly suprized with the fact that the game lets the player choose their own pace. You are not rushed in to making choices (unless you charge bull-headed in to a room full of turrets). Rather, you are left with time to figure out how to get through each level. It's sort of ...

  • Portal is the best part of "The Orange Box"

I was always curious about "Portal" game in the Orange Box. Portal had received a lot of recognition from critics and game reviewers. I started "Portal" expecting greatness... I have to say that the game delivered completely, and actually exceeded my expectations. As amazing as Portal it is, it is also short. I was able to beat the whole game in about 4 hours. But it was some of the most enjoyable 4 hours I ever spent playing a video game. The concept is simple you get 1 cool gun called 'the portal gun'. It is able to shot 2 portals. These two portals will instantly be connected to each other. So if you shoot a portal at the ceiling and another portal right at your feet you'll end up falling into a portal and seemingly come out of the ceiling and fall again into the floor in an endless ...

  • A wonderful diversion in a sea of average games.

What is there to say about Portal? Plenty, and yet so little. Overall this is wonderful game, beautiful in it's design and original in it's gameplay. Filled with humor, suspense and interesting puzzles, this game is a must buy. It's only downside? It's length. It's not a horribly long game, as it's story mode can be completed in one or two sittings. Even including the bonus maps (edited levels built to be more challenging), it's still not that long. Regardless, it's humor and originality make up for it's length, as I can still sit down and enjoy running through the game even though I've beaten it many times. The comments and quips made by GLaDOS alone make it enjoyable. I definitely recommend this game to anyone and everyone, and urge you to buy your own copy the first chance you get.

  • Great mind bending fun!!

This is one game that has both a great sense of humor and some really bizarre puzzles. The humor is not the sort that makes you laugh out loud, but chuckle inside and smile all day, and scratch your head trying to think in a way your brain never really was meant to. It is also the tamest first person game that i have ever played, suitable for probably any age and person that is able to puzzle through it. Great fun!

  • Portal is a challanging, innovative game!

Portal is an intellectually challenging, sometimes funny game, with an edgy sense of humor. It requires a computer with good gaming capabilities, such as an effective video card that supports Pixel Shading 1.1 or better, in order to play; and fairly robust memory. I would recommend it for someone with gaming experience who wants a challenging, unique set of problems to solve in a futuristic, high tech setting.
