BACK OF BOOK SAYS: sir phillip knew that eloise bridgerton was a spinster and so he'd proposed figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. except she wasn't. the beautiful woman on his door step was anything but quiet and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth all he wanted to do was kiss her. while they don't get to gether til almost the end of the book, you don't seem to mind because there are so many other things going on. 1. feels like a mail order bride 2. the children pranks remind me of stephanie laurens book 3. the brothers.....oh it is so funny reminds me of johanna lindsey and the gentle rogue with the american brothers. lol 4. love the mother daughter talk, oh it's priceless.....
Of all of Julia Quinn's books, this is my absolute least favorite. It's not that this is a BAD book or that Quinn's writing is somehow lacking. I just didn't think that the 'hero' of the story was strong enough to keep up with Eloise. Julia Quinn tried something new--including a character with depression--but somehow managed, unfortunately, to make him seem weak rather than depressed. Quinn's trademark humor is also missing. This is still a good book and worth reading, but definitely not as good as the rest of the series.
I'd actually rate this book above good but less than excellent. It was funny and I enjoy Julia Quinn's writing but this wasn't the best of the Bridgerton series. My favorite is Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, the story of Penelope and Colin. I was slightly disappointed with Eloise's story.Philip's character was well written and had depth.
