First Gear's Allis-Chalmers HD21 crawler with towed Scraper.
I have to say I was very impressed with this diecast model. First Gear released this model along with their HD21 with blade and ripper as part of their "first casting series" new tooling collectibles released in 2009. The model come with a certificate of authenticity card with a printed serial number which is matched on the serial number plate on the rear of the model. Boxing is very good with the model held in a plastic former and secured to the former with twist ties (which can be a bit fiddly to remove, so take care). Included are two tiny pins (one's a spare) to secure the scraper to the crawler. Design, detail, assembly, and painting of the model is outstanding and very little plastic has been used. The scraper, in particular, is quite well detailed with hydraulic hoses and lines ... I have to say I was very impressed with this diecast model. The scraper, in particular, is quite well detailed with hydraulic hoses and lines (even to showing the hose couplings) with a fully functional ejector and apron and functioning hydraulic rams to raise an lower the bowl. Once the scraper is attached to the crawler the hydraulic hoses fit neatly in to it's coupling. The overall length of the model is 12 inches, greatest width is the scapers out frame which is 3 inches. I don't believe this or other Allis-Chalmers HD21 variants done by First Gear are still in production (58-3152 HD21 with blade and ripper) , 50-5175 HD21 with winch U.S. Forest service green, and 59-3161 HD21 w/blade and ripper white), but there seem to be plenty around, the the green and wite ones are getting harder to find. IMO these are some of the best 1/50 scale diecast dozers for the price around, and a cut above First Gear's later Int. Harvester releases, and much better than their current Komatsu models which have more plastic, poorer paint jobs, flimsy tracks, and inferior assembly. Finally, please remember a model like this is NOT a toy for a child. These are made for collecting and display NOT for playing with in the dirt. If you want a nice construction toy for a child BRUDER makes a wonderful line of rugged toys.
