NotesArriving on a wave of well-earned hype rooted in tight chops and a confident swagger, The Strokes offer a Rock & Roll antidote to the plague of boy bands, teen divas, and petulant rap-rock outfits. Despite this quintet's prep-school background, their sound comes from the same primordial ooze that spawned Big Apple legends like the New York Dolls and the Velvet Underground. Clocking in at 36 minutes, IS THIS IT packs it's perfect length with stellar songs that draw inspiration from all over the map. Among the many highlights are "Last Nite" with it's insistent Motown backbeat and choppy Johnny Thunders-like guitar solo, "Barely Legal," sounding like 1980's-era Cure fronted by a saucy Iggy Pop, and the jangly "Someday" with it's hairshirt of vulnerability from a bad break-up. While frontman Julian Casablanca's (son of Elite Models founder John) drawls like Lou Reed through a busted intercom, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr.. do Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd proud as their sinewy chords intertwine to great effect on the angular "The Modern Age" and equally neurotic "Alone, Together." Thanks to The Strokes, rumors of Rock & Roll's demise appear to have been greatly exaggerated.

    Old modern classic

Had been too long since listening to this album. Just a masterpiece from beginning to end. Hearing it on record just sounds right. The pressing is great, and the price was even better. Hard to find this at a reasonable price. Also pleased that even though this not the imported version, it contains New York City Cops, which was left off initial US versions, because of 9/11.

    Broken Record

We tried playing the record on a brand new turntable and the record kept skipping. So we tried it with an older turntable. Same problem. It seems that the record had all different scratches and deformations. We couldn’t even finish one song... I’m pretty disappointed.

  • Songs are skipping

Shipping was really fast. Soma and Alone, Together are skipping like crazy (two of my favorite songs!) the other songs sound good though. Beautiful cover and a great album to add to your collection!

  • Excellent

My new favorite album...you'll hear it in every record store you walk into and it's the best. Just don't confuse them with The Killers!

  • Great album, great price

I'm always cautious when buying a vinyl thats so cheap, but this was a great purchase. I was worried when I saw the packaging, but upon opening I realized it was double packaged. Great deal!
