This is perhaps one of the finest DVD's ever on a man that stood above many great leaders early in American History. Jefferson was brilliant, a paradox and somewhat of an enigma. Yet he was equal to an entire host of brilliant scientists, philosophers and great statesman in his time right up to the present. A man that had a dream and helped give it birth to a nation that many including the founding father thought would never last very long.

There are two reasons why I bought this. First, I am a big fan of Ken Burns and already own "The Civil War" and "Baseball". Secondly, I am a big history buff and recently visited Monticello. I wanted a good video biography of Jefferson and this DVD certainly does not disappoint. It also explores objectively many of the mysterious and controversial subjects of Jefferson's life such as slavery and his relationship with Sally Hemmings. The photography is first rate with excellent footage of the interior of the house as well as exterior shots of the house and grounds at various times of the day and year. The narrative is well written and presented as only Burns can do. The result is a very educational, entertaining three hour documentary that holds your interest and makes you come away feeling that you somehow knew the man.Read full review
Have always been fascinated by this man and his effects on American life. Have read every book I could find. This documentary is the best thing I've ever found about the great man.

Overall well done film. A little disappointed that there was not more about the Corp of Discovery (Lewis & Clark) and the background of the Louisiana Purchase .
