Whether you were born in 1920 or 1990, you have heard of the Carpenters. Karen and Richard Carpenter are the most entertaining musical brother and sister combo. The smooth vocals of Karen with the arrangements of Richard make for some of the best easy listening songs in memory. When someone else covers your songs, you have made it in the music world and so many artists have covered the songs of this duo. This cd is their greatest single hits of their career. If you ask the younger generation about the Carpenters, they may know Karen and her public fight with anerexia. But if you were born before 1980, you enjoyed some of the finest pop songs of all time. This cd is a necessary addition to any baby boomer's cd collection. Since it is that time of year too, look for their Christmas album "Christmas Portrait" by the Carpenters.Read full review
I didn't have any Carpenters in my collection, and I was moved by Karen's beautiful/distinct voice from the first time heard her on the radio which probably happened when I was around 5 years old (so this CD was basically "a must" for me). I loved them back then, and I still love listening to them every once in a while today. I wasn't familiar with every track on this CD, but it seems to have all the great air-play stuff that I remember and still appreciate so well. As a final thought, I did read one review that somebody posted stating that they thought the Carpenters were really "CHEESY." However, it just so happens that I really like cheese a lot. Just a thought! GOD BLESS!!

All the best and greatest hits of the Carpenters. Not only did this brother and sister team turn out fantastic songs all arranged and orchestrated by Richard Carpenter, the songs were composed by some of the greatest composers of the time including Burt Bacharach, Paul Williams, Lennon-McCartney, Carole King, not to mention Richard Carpenter himself. Who can forget Goodbye to Love or Yesterday Once More? The arrangements with delicate piano and swelling strings blended with Karen's multi-recorded angle voice is a treasure. What a tragedy to lose Karen, one wonders what beautiful songs we'll never hear due to her untimely death. If there was only one CD I could have, this is the one I'd choose! I play it every day and it doesn't wear out with repeated plays. If only there were more!
I HAVE HAD A COPY OF THIS ALBUM SINCE 1975. IT OF COURSE WAS ON AN LP AND AFTER ALL THESE YEARS GOT ACCIDENTLY DAMAGED. I LOVE THE GROUP SO AFTER A QUICK SEARCH ON EBAY I FOUND THIS REPLACEMENT CD. IT SOUNDS ALMOST AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL. THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THE OLD LP'S THAT (AT LEAST TO US OLD TIME JUMPERS) JUST MAKE THEM SOUND BETTER. BUT I GUESS WE ALL MUST UPDATE SOMETIME. GET THIS ALBUM IN ANY FORMAT YOU CAN. IT'S TIMELESS.
I bought my mother this exact album but in the cassette for a years ago and she listened to it over and over and over, obviously she loves the Carpenters..lol..so she was very sad when she lost it and I checked everywhere for another one but they were all so expensive. I was very pleased when I came across this album here so I bought it for her as a gift. It came super fast in the mail and my mother says it sounds so much better then the cassette tape ever did. So I am pleased at this purchase and how great it sounds and how cheap and fast it was to get it. It sounds so clear, now I cant stop singing to all the songs on the album.lol.
