About this product

Product Information

The second game to utilize Nintendo's Super FX chip (Star Fox being the first), Stunt Race FX is a racing game that features polygonal graphics, battery backup, three camera angles (close-up, long-shot and cock-pit), eight different speed courses, four different stunt courses, and four modes of play.<br><br>One player can engage in Speed Trax, which lets you challenge four courses in order to get the best time; Stunt Trax, which has you racing each course while trying to pass as many checkpoints as possible; and Test Run & Free Trax, which starts out as a beginner's practice mode. Battle Trax is a two-player split-screen match in which players race against both the clock and each other in a one-on-one, three-lap race.<br><br>The various tracks in Speed Trax will take you through tunnels, around numerous twists and turns, up and down mountains (where you should watch for animals crossing the road and falling rocks), across snow-covered streets and more. Surrounding environments include the woods, nightfall, the sea and the forest. When you complete the second course in each class, you will get to play a bonus game in which you drive a semi.<br><br>There are four Stunt Trax: Rock Field, Up'N Down, Ice Dance and Blue Lake. While trying to reach the finishing line within the time limit, you should try to collect as many stars as possible. Stars give you extra time and increase your ranking. If you manage to reach the goal in all four courses, you can play a special course in which you control a vehicle from the viewpoint of a remote control car. The object of this special game is to destroy three other cars on the course by ramming into them. <br><br>Stunt Race FX offers four standard vehicles from which to choose. 4WD is a truck that is good for stunt driving. Coupe is a medium-size sports car built for intermediate racers. F-Type is a race car with a weak body and a high maximum speed. 2WD is a motorcycle with good acceleration, tire grip and speed.<br><br>Naturally, these racers can accelerate, turn (quickly and slowly), brake and reverse, but they can also jump over cars, ramps and other obstacles. You can give your vehicle a boost of speed as long as your boost meter is not empty. You can pick up blue gems to refill the boost meter and red gems to refill the damage meter, which gets depleted whenever you hit an obstacle.

Had this game as a kid - still fun now!

I gave 4 out of 5 stars because I think this is a solid B+ game. It was a lot of fun when I was a kid and it was a breakthrough game for its time as it was one of the few games that used the polygon mechanism the Super Nintendo offered. Thoughts playing as an adult: It is still challenging. It gives me a very nostalgic feeling as I remember all the car characters and courses. Looking at this now in comparison to other SNES games, the graphics are very glitchy. And although the graphics are glitchy the game is still playable. With the hefty price tag of Mario Kart, this is a nice alternative. I paid roughly $7 for this but I probably wouldn't pay more than that. If you are a collector this is a definite must have for your collection. I did think that my 6 year old would enjoy this but she ...

  • Stunt Race FX never had a chance!

Stunt Race FX was the second game for the Super Nintendo to make use of the Super FX chip. The game was a first to feature fully polygonal environments and vehicles. The game offers 4 vehicles to choose from, F1 racer, 4wd monster truck, sport coupe and a motorcycle. They all have there performances and offer a good amount of variety to the game. Stunt Race is a decent game, with plenty of speed and a great level of control. You can even play against a friend in the battle trax mode, this allows for a very tiny viewing screen though and is not as enjoyable as the speed or stunt trax modes. Overall this game is definitely worth picking up if you are a snes racing fan.

  • Fun 3d racer

I had this game back in the day. It's fun to play and it was impressive for a snes to pull this out back then. FX chip power!

  • A not so much blast from my childhood gamer past!

I loved this game back in 94' when life was a lot simpler and 3d graphics were thought to be futuristic. I enjoyed this game hours on end and remember going to sleep at night still hearing those 16-bit sound effects as I drifted off. Fast forward 16 years and time has not been well for this game. My friend and I both felt nostalgia for this game and once I found it on ebay, were more than eager relive our past gaming experience. Once I received the game, we immediately popped the cartridge into my junior SNES and projected it onto my 100in projection screen. I don't know if the larger screen had anything to do with it, but we could only manage 2 races before feeling very dizzy from the poor polygonal shapes turning each and every other way. Even though I loved this game when I was a child, ...

  • A great game. Instant classic!

Most people think of the Mario Kart series when racing games are discussed for any Nintendo system. For whatever reason,Stunt Race FX does not get the attention that it deserves. The game features the FX chip (the two extra pieces of cartridge sticking out on the bottom of the game. There were a few games that featured this chip-Star Fox was one of them. The chip's function was to enhance graphics and detail. We all remember what Star Fox looked like, right? The game's designs were fantastic-almost modern art-ish with the various shapes and colors. The same goes for Stunt Race FX. The only problem is that those who see this game, or any Super Nintendo game for that matter today, are not impressed with what they see because it is being compared to the PS3, XBOX 360, and Wii. So rather than ...
