Philips DVP3982/F7 is NOT an HD-DVD Player
This DVD player, while fine in and of itself, is NOT a High Definition DVD player. What it is, in fact, is an Upconverting DVD player. What does that mean in plain English? It means that it will NOT play HD-DVD's as a true HD-DVD player will, but it will convert the standard DVD output signal to one of HD quality. What this means is if you have any HD-DVD's sitting around and you want to play them using this piece of equipment, you will be heartily disappointed, as I was. If you look around at other ads for this type of player, you will see that the REPUTABLE manufacturers/dealers will call this item what it really is: an Upconverting DVD player. While I realize that HD-DVD is an obsolete technology, and Blue-Ray is what's out there, there are still some of us that have HD-DVD discs that ... This DVD player, while fine in and of itself, is NOT a High Definition DVD player. What it is, in fact, is an Upconverting DVD player. What does that mean in plain English? The product is easy to set up since its all in one you deal with less cables. overall I have no complaints about the product except that the volume only goes to 40; which isn't that loud. so if you like to listen to things at high volume i wouldn't recommend, but if you want something simple for your household than this product is pretty good.
