Vin Diesel muscles his way from Eastern Europe to New York City in this post-apocalyptic thriller. The actor plays a mercenary who must take a package west in the midst of a crumbling world, but the package is more than it appears. • Barbarian? Mercenary? Vigilante? Why Vin?

The question that always seems to pop into my head first is this. Does Vin Diesel pick these roles because he better relates to the people he plays, or, do the people making the movie want to type cast him as a real ruthless mercenary with a tiny soft spot who will save the day? I don't know. The character he plays is very tough and we seldom really understand how he became this rough and rowdy. Babylon A.D. takes place in the crappy version of the future where everyone who is living in Russia is barely scraping by and New York is still prospering. I'm not sure what kind of message this sends to us yet, Blade Runner's Ridley Scott had a similar vision of a heavily populated Chinese base in the San-Francisco future. The story line was pretty engrossing at times yet kept us wandering ...

  • Babylon AD (blu-ray)

I enjoyed the movie overall. The action scenes weren't bad and the visions of the near future were interesting at least. The story was not very good though, it started off well enough with Diesel kicking some ass and being sent off on some crazy mission, but it kind've started to become less interesting when Aurora started having visions and going crazy. The scene in the refugee camp where Toorop ends up killing the fighter guy seemed long and unnecessary. When it was revealed that Aurora was some kind of genetically engineered superhuman being used by the Noelites I was disappointed, and I was also disappointed when it was revealed that she was having superhuman twins. I think so much more could've been done with this movie then useless action and a weak ending. It would've been much ...

  • Could have been great....

My first reaction to Babylon A.D. was that it's not nearly as bad as its own director, Matthieu Kassovitz, has been claiming it is, although that reaction came to me before I got to the end of the movie. The movie has a cool set-up and a few good action sequences, although they suffer from that all too modern symptom of having been put together by editors who must have been on some kind of amphetamines. Like so many other recent action films (Death Race, for example), the fight scenes and chase scenes and whatnot are cut together so fast that they fly by with dizzying speed, and you move on with the rest of the movie with only a vague impression of what just happened. I have to say that Babylon A.D. left me with the feeling that it could have and should have been so much better than it ...

  • Solid Action Film by Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel gives his fans what they want in regards to action movies. This movie is not Chronicles of Riddick, XXX and the Fast and the Furious movies. However, Babylon A.D. is still a solid action film. You have Michelle Yeoh in the film who shows her skills in this movie in regards to throwing down. I like this movie due to the dark and grimey feel you get from watching this movie. It has its flaws, but the action from start to finish will make up for what this movie lacks. Enjoy watching this movie. Must have!
