In 1973, Lois Duncan wrote a book called I Know What You Did Last Summer about four teens who accidentally run over someone and vow never to tell anyone about it. Not their parents, not the police. Well, that decision, safe to say, comes back to bite them in the ass. Especially since they blame each other but not themselves for their part in it and spend the entirety of the book being the opposite of proactive and not getting the police involved. Thankfully, this got rectified when the movie version came out, which I watched and loved back when it came out in theaters and on video. It was about the same thing the book was about except it began on graduation night and, after they accidentally hit the guy, upon discovering the guy's dead (They don't just drive away from the accident. They're not like the guys in the novel.),they dump the body off a dock and Barry insists they not tell anyone about it, forcing Julie to go along with it when she hesitates to agree. A year passes and the guilt and shame over her involvement in it eats away at Julie's soul. Summer break comes and Julie's forced to come home, where her friends, who've attempted to make lives for themselves in spite of what happened, and a note that says "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER." Deducing that the note-writer is after them, Julie and Co. take instant action, looking up names, making plans, and setting them into effect before the 4th of July rolls around and whoever's targeting them makes his/her plans for them come to fruition. Must better than the book and a whole lot thrilling!Read full review
