A Surprisingly Well Made Tonneau Cover for the Price!
Material/Workmanship - The rails fit my truck perfectly. They are strong and rigid. The canister that the top roles into is also well made. It is metal (as noted in the ad) and is sufficiently thick to protect the top without being so think to be too heave to work with. The top, itself, is well made and solid. I don't think that I would recommend standing on it, but it gives the impression of being secure. I won't say that the system is "watertight", but it is definitely "water resistant".
Installation - The instructions recommend that it takes 2 people to install it. I installed it myself without any issues. All of the necessary bolts, nuts, and washers were provided and clearly described. The installation consists of 3 basic steps: 1) Attach side rails to canister, 2) set canister and rails on top of bed, and 3) clamp rails to bed. There are also a couple of width adjustments, but a single slat that matches the ones that the actual top is made of is provided to use to ensure that the distance between the rails is consistent. Again, by myself, it took less than 60 minutes to install. One note, reading the installation guide was helpful, but actually taking the time to look at the pictures provided is priceless. The clamps that attach the side rails to the bed work surprisingly well ... actually much better than I expected.
Appearance - This is exactly the look that I was going for. I leave mine open most of the time and it does not block my back window, nor does it stand out as even being a tonneau cover. When closed, it looks clean. The paint/powdercoat is consistent and, from the side, it is barely visible. With the cover fully closed, I am still able to use my tailgate without obstruction.
Function - I lubricated the rails with light silicon grease (think bicycle grease) after installing it. This was not necessary on my part, just a habit when installing anything with moving parts. The top opens and closes easily. Definitely a 1 man operation.
Security - If someone really wants to break into the bed of my truck, they are going to do it. This cover will work well to keep the opportunistic criminal from just reaching into the bed of my truck and grabbing stuff. Note: part of why I leave it open most of the time is to make it easy to see that I don't have anything in the bed of my truck. The locks work well and hold the top firmly. It will at least slow down the more determined thief ... and should at least make them have to decide if it is worth the effort to break into. There are 2 locks on this top (driver side and passenger side) and they require separate keys. That is a little annoying, but is not a deal breaker for me. I like the idea that there are not a bunch of people out there that have the same cover as I do that also have the same keys that I do. I guess that balances out the inconvenience of 2 separate keys.
Durability - I can't speak to that, yet. I have only had my cover installed for a couple of weeks.
Bottom Line - I like the top. It appears to be well made. It looks good. And it is far more secure than a soft cover. I would buy it again and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
