About this product

Product Information

Borderlands is a far-out first-person shooting and driving game with a penchant for team-based tactics. The game is designed to be played cooperatively with up to four players, though it can be played solo as well. Set on a science fiction frontier planet where anarchy rules, the action-adventure casts the player as a mercenary character of one of four basic types: A well-rounded soldier skilled with weapons and vehicles, a hulking berserker specialized in heavy weapons and up-close melee combat, a stealthy siren with the power to disable enemies and vanish from view, and a sniping-specialist hunter with a pet hawk that helps in battle. The characters have complementing strengths and weaknesses, so in campaign missions as well as in pick-up battles, there are advantages for different character types that work together as a balanced team.

In the main campaign, players fight through rewarding missions in the wilds of the desolate planet, engaging in high-speed vehicular battles and small-squad combat through sophisticated settings in which solid recon and tactical planning win the day. Characters gain experience and level up, with customizable ability improvements as in a traditional role-playing game. With interchangeable parts, thousands and thousands of different possible weapons are available in Borderlands, and a character's proficiency and accuracy chances rise with repeated use of a certain weapon type. Resources such as ammunition and cash are shared among the squad, but the weapons and armor pieces that drop from fallen enemies may be up for grabs. In some multiplayer modes, characters on the same team can duel one another for the right to claim gear from a slain monster.

Designed for play on Internet-connected consoles and computers, the game features multiplayer combat with the four basic character archetypes in quick, online pick-up games. The high-def art style portrays eccentrically geared, slightly exaggerated human forms, in a land of rich, gritty textures, with a hint of an outline drawn around people and objects, for the appearance of a graphic novel come to life. Borderlands was developed by Gearbox Software, the studio behind the Brothers in Arms World War II games, acclaimed for their realistic portrayal of squad combat and historical accuracy of weapons and vehicles in fine detail.

Item is as exactly as the seller listed. Seller shipped fast. Although shipping charge was a bit excessive. For ground advantage online was $7.16 but I was charged $12.99. So there was an excess of $5.83. There was. Or excessive packaging as it was shipped in a perfect fit box. If the excess of $5.83 is for the handling then that too is excessive. I believe $2 handling fee would suffice. I also got taxed for the $12.99 shipping and it ended up being $13.90.

  • Worthwhile game! ESPECIALLY with friends!

I bought this game planning to play it with my friends, and it has been an absolute blast! The player classes don't necessarily require different playstyles, but their abilities DO boost capabilities significantly. The game has a good system of distributing loot evenly, and granting rare items just at the right time. Warning, if you play multiplayer, you *will* have to debate with friends who gets what item! They are not reserved, so there's gotta be some sort of agreement. Anyway, beyond the item hunger, it is incredibly rewarding to take down a huge boss with friends and watch it explode with loot! The game plays like a FPS and RPG. The RPG element does ask for some of the repetitive play, but the well-done FPS element makes it with the effort (and it's not a "grinding" ...

  • BEST FPS in a long time! Super game System.

TOO BAD Too bad so many negative reviews are at the front of the list, because this is a GREAT game! A first person shooter set in the post-apocalyptic future, you can play any of four characters and advance in level and skills. There are an endless variety of guns - literally endless - and I resorted to keeping a frequently rewritten list of items to makes choosing easier. I've played all characters through to the end - THERE IS AN END - although you can keep playing the plot line and NPCs get more numerous and tougher as play goes on. I LOVE THIS SHOOTER! What it lacks in depth it makes up for in ease of play and enjoyable battles. A great balance of challenge and rewards, you get more perks and money the more you fight. I've logged well over 100 hours (not 10 like one review ...

  • PC gamers beware!

I bought this game based on a series of reviews that called it was "more fun than Fallout 3" - oh that it were so! As an exclusively PC-based gamer, I normally avoid console focused games that have been "ported": many of them truly stink on on a decent system. Somehow, the fact that this game was console based either eluded me or I sub-consciously chose to ignore it, givne my wonderfully positive experience with F3. This game is not like F3, or any other modern game I've ever had for that matter. In a word - it sucks. That's two words. Sue me. Actually, I misspeak -- I don't KNOW if it sucks, because I can't get it to run past the training mission. There's this problem, or that problem, or this patch, or that DLC. Whatever - check the forums BEFORE you buy. This game must be the worst ...

  • Awesome Game!

I have had a hard time getting into an mmo or an rpg. Some of my friends play them all the time, but I would start one and lose interest and play Bioshock or another 1-player game. I saw Borderlands, and since I loved it's unique capacity of being awesome, I gave it a shot. I also really interested in the rpg + fps aspect. I am completely satisfied with the game, Co-op mode adds something I haven't played in before, and Borderlands does it very well. The enemies get harder when more players are connected, the challenges and vehicle travel are covered through unity with Co-op, which allows for a team feeling of achievement and accomplishment. This game has also been great for me and my girlfriend, because she has been trying to get me into an mmo and I've been trying to get her into an fps, ...

  • VERY BUGGY, unfinished problematic pc game. Won't work or play properly.

Can't say alot about this game then haven't been able to play it yet! I seen ALOT of feedback on problems getting the game to play. I've got a 880G m.o., amd Phenom2x4 2.8ghz cpu, GT440 vid card. I used latest patch 1st, then uninstalled & reinstalled, all the same. It halts & freezes constantly whether trying to use menu, setups, or just trying let intro roll or to finally get to the game part & it all halts & freezes as well. I'm sick of alot recent games that aren't fixed right & won't work. Borderlands is supposed to like multi-core units. I also tried the 'set affinity' to 2 cores only, etc. no change. Also the game just crashes very shortly after running. May get to game part but if does will crash pretty quick. Very dissappointed in it.
