Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed offers sports car racing enthusiasts both open road and closed circuit tracks in seven locales. Initially, three of each type of track are available, with a seventh bonus track unlocked only after winning a tournament at the six others. Players can enjoy four types of races (time trial, head-to-head, single race, and tournament) as well as options that include manual or automatic shifting, maps, replay, and statistics tracking.<br><br>Automobiles are showcased with specifics in five categories: general, performance, mechanical, history, and video, with statistics and voice-overs provided by Road & Track Magazine. Tournaments are divided into three classes (A, B and C) with specific sports cars and tracks featured in each.<br><br>Class C tournaments include the City and Rusty Springs raceways, with the Mazda RX-7, Acura NSX, and Toyota Supra Turbo. In Class B tournaments, players visit the Coastal and Autumn Valley tracks and maneuver the Porsche 911 Carrera, Dodge Viper RT/10 and Corvette ZR-1. At Class A tournaments, the Lamborghini Diablo VT and Ferrari 512TR super cars are featured at Alpine and Vertigo Ridge tracks.<br><br>Finishing races on closed circuit tracks results in game standings, while open road tracks are run in segments ending in checkpoints where current rank, top speed, and cumulative time stats are provided. On open road tracks, when racing in head-to-head mode with another player, the in-car radar becomes important to avoid police stops -- getting two tickets during any one segment results in arrest and disqualification.

The item came in as described and I am super happy with the purchase and think the item was worth the price. However, I have to bump the item description rating to two stars due to the seller does not include the fact that the joints as well as the head were loose (the head is not so lose where it would pop off easily) as well as the socks were missing in the description. In regards to the socks, I asked about them before and after the purchase to only be met with no response.

    Best racing game on the Sega Saturn.

    A must have for any Saturn owner. Possibly the best racing game on the system. Perfect mix of simulation with arcade style game play. Plus some of the coolest cars ever.

    Start Your Engines

    The Need for Speed is a great racing game to hit the Sega Saturn. It is also on Playstation. I am not sure which is better because I didn't play it on PS. You get a nice selection of cars and secret cars as well. The graphics are decent and the music is cool. It is a blast playing against a friend too. I bought mine Brand New in 2002 for about $10. If you don't have this, be sure to add it to your collection. They come up every now and then for a reasonable price on here.

    Classic racing game on an almost forgotten gaming console.

    Not as exciting as the modern racing games. But, for it's time, is a great game. Classic fun and again, great graphics for its time. Enjoyable, but don't try and compare it to newer consoles offerings. Play this game for a nostalgic feeling from the 90's.
