Notes2017 release from the rock icon. Roger Waters, the creative power and songwriting force behind Pink Floyd, presents Is This The Life We Really Want ?, his first rock album in 25 years. The album is produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck, U2), and includes 12 new Roger Waters musical compositions and studio performances. Roger Waters' last studio album, 1992's Amused To Death, was a prescient study of popular culture, exploring the power of television in the era of the First Gulf War. This long-awaited follow-up, Is This The Life We Really Want ?, is an unflinching commentary on the modern world and uncertain times, and a natural successor to such classic Pink Floyd albums as Animals and The Wall. The musicians on Is This The Life We Really Want? are: Roger Waters (vocals, acoustic, bass), Nigel Godrich (arrangement, sound collages, keyboards, guitar), Gus Seyffert (bass, guitar, keyboards), Jonathan Wilson (guitar, keyboards), Joey Waronker (drums), Roger Mannning (keyboards), Lee Pardini (keyboards) and Lucius (vocals) with Jessica Wolfe and Holly Proctor.

    Still got it

Hits pretty well on a political and lyrical level. Some of the music (and content) I feel quite isn't up to the of level "Amused to Death," Of course I put Amused to Death right up there with the Wall, Final Cut and DSOTM. But still a solid Waters success!

    Disappointing

I'm a huge Roger Waters / Pink Floyd fan. This is the first CD put out by this artist that I haven't given a positive review to. It had promise. It sounds like a continuation of Amused to Death, but it just never followed through with any likeable songs. It has all the earmarks of Waters' work (dark overtones, and lyrics that illuminate his monstrous ego), but it falls short of what I expect from him by a mile. I wish he had at least hired a competent guitarist to make the sound more palatable, but I guess Clapton and Beck were busy... and everyone knows that Gilmour won't work with him (pity!). In the end, you're left with the question, "is this the music you really want?" Unfortunately, the answer is a resounding "NO!"

  • Lyrical, and Musical Masterpiece!!

Another lyrical, and Musical Masterpiece. As it has been my experience with Pink/Roger, I have to listen and MOST IMPORTANT!! Read the lyrics! From Dark Side all the way to now, The Messages are Heartfelt and Compelling, seemingly pointless at first; (for myself) then after a few listens, and reading and understanding the words, and how He Beautifully Wraps the Sound to the Words, THEN!...…..……..Wala Magic!! Really Good Stuff, If You Like Pink/Roger, you should appreciate this.
