The recipes also reflect the American "melting pot," with dishes ranging from Egg Foo Yong to Huevos Rancheros. Ever wonder how certain popular recipes were invented? I actually ordered this for my friend because she had borrowed mine and liked it so well. These are just basic plain recipes - they are easy to follow and every one I have tried is excellent. My friend even tried the pie dough recipe and she decided she liked it better than the one she had been using for 20 years. Highly recommend this book.

  • Good Housekeeping Great American Classics Cookbook 2004

Great recipes to have on hand. Recipes are easy to follow. It uses readily available ingredients and the recipes turn out well! I said 'good' rather than 'excellent' because it's not the most modern cookbook but a class that I'm happy to have in my collection.

  • Good Housekeeping Great American Classics

The recipes are easy and use common ingredients. It is easy to use these recipes to create wonderful meals that my family enjoys.

  • Great American Classics Cookbook

This book does a nice job giving historical data along with the recipes for basic American cooking. It is not a gourmet cookbook. The recipes are for the tried and true American classics...recipes brought the early immigrants to this country as well as recipes developed more recenty. The directions are easy to follow.

  • This book lives up to it's name.

Great book. All the recipes use ordinary ingredients you will find in your pantry. Each recipe has a blurb about the origins of the dish, very interesting. I have other books labeled "American" cook books, but this one is by far the one that leads the list.
