  • Worth the $10 upgrade.

This is an old processor, not even dual-core. But it worked for a nice upgrade tweak to an older hand-me-down system I have. I bought this processor to replace a similar model (Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz, 1 MB L2 cache) that had only a 533 Mhz Front Side Bus (FSB). So if your P4 motherboard can handle an 800 Mhz FSB cpu, but you're only running the 533 Mhz model, and you upgrade your RAM to DDR-pc3200 (if needed), this adds a noticeable kick to your boot time and any memory intensive tasks. Benchmarks show my memory throughput increased at least 33%. I had previously upgraded the memory from DDR PC2700 to DDR PC3200, but the 533 Mhz FSB of the previous CPU was limiting the memory to 166 Mhz and driving it at a 4:5 ratio (133:166). With a 800 Mhz FSB CPU (quad pumped at 200 Mhz), I can now ...

  • Powerful but Power Hungry, for any class of user

With a 800Mhz Front Side Bus, 2.8 Ghz processor (with or without MultiThreading), these little guys crank! Remember, most Motherboards and Software run with only 1 core most of the time, so you might as well get as many clock cycles as you can. For the budget conscious Power User (478 socket boards abound) or as a backup to the Phenom II X3, X4, X6, i5, or i7 that you can't leave on the table while you leave to get your Vente Double Latte across the room, P4 is still relevant. They do heat up and are power eaters, but for less than the cost of the 16 Gig RAM in your FANCY, you've got a good usable Notebook that runs 7 Ultimate, MultiSim, Excel 2010, and anything else you want. JUST WATCH YOUR BATTERY LEVELS!

  • Still a good working horse considering his successors!

Good Processor with hyper-threding tecnology, pretty speedy depending on the type of work you'll give it! Still an excellent price for it. It was the highest speed and type the motherboard would except, therefore i had not many choices on my side.Considering it's age it is still a good office machine processor. .....a work horse, I would say.

  • A very good processor

The Intel Pentium 4 processor has come a long way in the last two years. These days, if you want a top of the line system, it's going to have a Pentium 4 inside. Yes, AMD's AthlonXP 2700+ and 2800+ processors are just as powerful, its just that they're almost impossible to find for retail sale while the P4 2.8 GHz has been easily available since its' introduction.

  • Fantastic Pentium 4 Processor

had a celeron processor. Installed this and boot up was much faster. Installed with no problems. Being it was used I was concerned, but worked out great. Have been watching the temp readings and stock fan has been keeping it in check.
