About this product

Product Information

David Hall

The 1938-D is the most common Buffalo nickel in mint state and Gem condition by several multiples. Interestingly, this issue is somewhat scarce in circulated condition. Apparently many were saved as this was the last year of issue for the Buffalo nickel series and in the same year the Jefferson nickel began. So collectors of the day would have been very aware that this was the last year of issue and large quantities of original uncirculated rolls were saved. The strike is usually super sharp and luster can be extremely frosty. There are many spectacular Gem survivors of this issue and it is generally the "prettiest" of all Buffalo nickels.

    Beautiful Coin

This is a PCGS MS-65 Buffalo Nickel in the standard PCGS protective case. It is a beautiful coin and this is an excellent specimen of the type. Additionally, PCGS has a reputation for accuracy in grading coins.

  • 1938-D Buffalo Nickel

I bought this 1938-D buffalo/Indian head nickel because it was minted in my birth year. I chose this very nice nickel because of the great original detail on both the Indian profile and the buffalo. The most worn area on the coin is the year, and that is so slight, there is absolutely no question it is 1938. Although it is not uncirculated, I added a high quality coin, in my opinion, to my collection at a very reasonable cost.
