About this product

Product Information

A notoriously troubled production notwithstanding, the controversial cult classic THE WICKER MAN is now regarded as a classic of British cinema. Edward Woodward stars as Sergeant Howie, a naive young police officer sent to Summerisle, a secluded island off the coast of Scotland, to investigate the disappearance of a young girl named Rowan. When he arrives there, he finds a very tight-knit community that is mistrustful and hostile to outsiders. No one is willing to even acknowledge Rowan's disappearance. Soon, Howie begins to realize that the town might, in fact, be a strange pagan cult, one given to unbridled sexuality and possible human sacrifice. Seeking an audience with the oddly civilized Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee), Howie hopes to get to the bottom of the mystery, but instead he finds something more shocking than he could have ever imagined.Written by Anthony Shaffer (SLEUTH, DEATH ON THE NILE), Robin Hardy's eerie film paints a disturbing portrait of an almost prehistoric, multi-deity worshipping society given to bizarre rituals and Bacchanalian excess. Though recognition may have been a long time coming, THE WICKER MAN stands as a strikingly original achievement that is equal parts horror, drama, comedy, and musical.

The Original Wicker Man 99 minutes.

This set includes both the. so called, extended version and a copy of the theatrical release. Running 99 minutes and Called the extended version, the 99 minute movie is in reality the version that the director intended. It, the 99 minutes, is the only version that should ever be seen. If you cannot find the 99 runtime, or a set with both, please do not waste your time. The shorter, recut, version leaves out vital information and changes the timeline enough to cause confusion. When compared to the original it is a travesty. The movie itself is a classic mystery/horror/ thriller. Strangely enough it is also a musical done so subtly and integral to the plot that those who do not care for musical as a genre will not notice. (Christopher Lee pointed that fact out in an interview.) Once again ...

  • A very collectable version of one of my favorite films

I bought this DVD box set because "The Wicker Man" has been one of my favorite horror/suspense type films for several years. I very much prefer these 1973 original versions over the fairly recent remake with Nicholas Cage. The cast includes Ed Woodward (The Equalizer), Christopher Lee, Ingrid Pitt, and many other UK film regulars. The wooden box is quite nice, it contains small copies of the original lobby posters and has the Wicker Man logo burned into the front. It contains both the US theatrical version which has a running time of 88 minutes, and the original long version which runs 99 minutes. Even though the theatrical version is considerably shorter, it does have a couple of scenes not in the long version. I personally enjoyed both versions, but will admit I liked the long ...

  • aesthetic&casting is HOLY, the filming=exuisite&story!

The first time I watched this was not until 2004. I've always wanted to rent this and watch it, if not to buy it, ever since I was little. In my pee-wee basketball days, I heard my principle & teacher talking about a film they saw called the wicker man(I could only voyeur adults talking). They were like: "it's outright evil and satanic", & so I HAD TO SEE IT! This was like mid to late 80s and I couldn't find Wicker Man at all, different towns/cities and vhs-rentals. Nothing. In 2004 I went in this unconventional movie rental store, and in the VHS dept. there was the Wicker Man! I couldn't wait to watch this, and honestly I didn't know that all this slow paced, but slowly getting more enquisitive and more at pace that's got fast enough for its ...

  • Creepy Cult Movie About a Creepy Cult

What gets you is what you do not expect. You think it is going one way and then it turns a sharp left and then another. A cop tries to solve the case of a missing girl, but no one in the town seems to be willing to help. He keeps digging for the truth - and you know what happens to people who dig too much in horror movie! Excellent script with solid acting. The creepiest part is the low budget feel, the harsh light on the town - even when trying to be all cheery you know that something is very wrong with that town! Highly recommended for horror fans, I have not seen the remake so I will hold my comparison. But usually the original is the truer/scarier film.

  • Great limited edition

I'm not going to go into detail on the movie based upon it already reaching cult status, however I will say that it's a very interesting and unique piece for any dvd collector. You most likely won't be disappointed in this purchase.
