Learn New Tricks in Old Software
Now whoever is buying this in the current year, almost a decade after release, we're a special sort of group! I didn't want to "subscribe" to using After Effects via a monthly payment, so I waited patiently until CS5 and a seller willing to go through the license transfer process came along. CS6 might've been preferable, but I ended up with CS5. Guides on how to use software this old are grainy, but this book fills in the gaps wonderfully! Using outdated programs means learning material is cheap, and I got this guide for $4 free shipping! The lessons included are very much worth working through, because it will teach you small, easily overlooked tricks that other content creators take for granted and fail to explain. Much like college textbooks, software implements minor changes with each upgrade. The environment in CS5 looks similar to CE 2019. This book isn't perfect, but it's the best resource you can buy for this version, as far as I can tell.

Watch out for aftermarket products.
Starting out on older Adobe CS this is the book to start if you do not have an instructor. Clear instruction, examples, projects to get you started. I need a 64bit computer, but I am ready to start when I do. Watch out for aftermarket products that leave you hanging after the 3rd page.

This book is very well written, I never got lost and understood everything. He even teaches various ways to do something so you can understand it. The inclosed files make it great. One of the best things is that each chapter starts with "look at the finished product" section so you know where you are going before you start. This is my 3rd book on After Effects and by far the best.
