    Great for limited purposes

    I needed something for secure VPN access to my home networks, which are more complex than your average setup. The Checkpoint 4800 series is obsolete and no longer supported, so it's available cheap, and the VPN functionality I need is included without having a current software license. It has the capability to provide access to multiple networks, along with some firewall functions. It's not easy to set up. Although it uses an older version of the Checkpoint gaia software, online documentation isn't helpful without a fair amount of understanding of the product. Because of licensing restrictions, your second hand unit may not have the latest firmware that it supports, and some features won't be operational.
