Very Enjoyable. Maybe not as lovely as Murdock but it's also half a century later too!!!! Where's the popcorn binge time.

Enjoying this series. Bought years 1 through 4 as a set. There is one more final season but it was as much right now as the complete set of four so will wait a while to order ir when prices will go down. Do have a little problem understanding what is said due to the accent/language differences between USA and Australia. But if we really want to hear it again we can always pause and replay. We don't usually bother. Most characters grow on you or are engaging. The bad guys make you nervous and the good ones you cheer on. Having my childhood in the 50's into the 60's a lot of thigns seem spot on but there are some editing mistakes. It's does not have the appearance of an expensive production so perhaps that's what's happening. Overall one has to remember the post war era in the states was boom years and faster paced perhaps and Australia like the UK had been actually hit and no doubt took a while to recover comparative. So as long as you keep an open mind and not get too nit picking I can recommend as long as you enjoy this kind of program. Each show is longer than the usual 30ish to 40 minutes most USA shows are these seem to run around 50 to 55 minutes. BUT only negative is there are only approx 10 shows per year. Just when you are getting hooked in you have to go to the next year. I do wish they would make these series 16 to 20 shows. That's nit picking. Enjoyable and see us re-watching at a later date so that's a big recommend from us.

  • when I order a new product it should work as new.

This is the second product that I ordered, the first had to be sent back, so far this product has had just a few problems where it pauses and then tries to resume with some difficulty, and this is just the second disc.

  • Not who you thought!

Dr. Blake series follows the same formats of other mysteries...just with Australian twist. "Right" has a different use and meaning. Watch the episodes in sequence, enjoy and then consider - what is next..."right". This series is a continuing cliff hanger. The series builds and moves forward from the last episode. Caution: once you have seen one, knowing a theme is developing and continues you want to watch them all at one time "right". Enjoy the character development, and realize what is seen is not what is...the least likely suspects have a different side - you will not see until later. Nothing is as you expect.

  • Post WWII Australian psychological & medical Mysteries

This is a Post WWII set of Mysteries set in Australia. It shows the state of Medicine at the time. It also shows the In-fighting and Politics of small towns and the ways lives can be Destroyed by various factions. It is Extremely well acted and left me hungry for more. The Characters are well drawn as are the Places . .

  • Enjoyable small town murder mysteries

I love the Dr. Blake mysteries. I enjoy the small town feel at an earlier time (1959). The mysteries are interesting and the characters are engaging. Oh yeah, then there is the quiet romance building between the doctor and the woman who takes care of the home.

  • Worth it!

Set in Australia, but in the classic style of British mysteries, the Dr. Blake series has enough drama, mystery and interesting characters to please anyone. And the continuing story of the lives of Dr. Blake and his associates through the series, provides additional interest - and drama. Set in a small town shortly after WW2, it is authentic to the period.

  • Top Notch Entertainment

Well written series which keeps you engaged. Wish there were more programs of this quality offered on network TV rather than the "fluff" and "nonsense" shown.

  • Great Series - tremendous arc over the year

We have enjoyed "Dr. Blake Mysteries" since we discovered it on Netflix. The characters are engaging, the stories interesting, and the film and editing quality are great. The theme and the background musical score is beautiful and engaging as well. The main characters, Lucien and Jean, play off one another so well, multitudes of dialog is unsaid between them. We care for these characters. There are a couple of new characters that we are not sure about, but that is their function in the flow of the series, so just like an uninvited guest, we withhold judgement on them until their purposes are revealed. That's all a part of the mystery, hey? We were looking for another series that grabbed us in a similar manner as "Foyle's War". Even though the shows aren't that much alike, they are period dramas. Whereas "Foyle's War" is more about the stiff upper lip English attitude during WWII, "Dr. Blake Mysteries" are about peacetime in Australia and the opening attitudes - not unlike America at the time. The former gives you clues along the way, but much is hidden; the latter is a little more open about the clues until the reveals at the end. Both series I can highly recommend. The DVDs themselves were brand-new and played back perfectly.

  • Well worth watching

Great TV series. Well written and acted. Always an interesting story twist that I did not see coming. Highly recommend the whole series.

Set in Australia, this is a very good murder-mystery series. My wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
