While the trio of Frisell, Driscoll and Baron would go on to further refine and define their highly influential sound, this earlier version of the Bill Frisell band nicely features Robertson's talents in unique ways. This album is distinct from the rest of Frisell's catalog from this period, as it features the production aesthetics of ECM records at the time. Soaked in reverb, some of Frisell's most angular and "Downtown" sounding writing, and Baron's massive drum sound, possess a very different feel here than on the albums released on Nonsuch.
